WOW or WIP’s with Esther. 31st July 2019.

WOW or WIP’s is over on Esther’s blog for this week again!

Hello All where  ever you are or what ever you are doing I hope it’s fun.  This week past has mostly been fun after last week?  I started my wee houses for Esther Aliu’s BOM Hold On To Your Heart on Sunday avo and have managed a little more each day.  It’s so lovely to be back sewing on the machine, I never thought I’d say that, but with Jenny’s help I have learnt to love my machine and to machine applique.   This week I’m sharing how I’m building my wee houses on my HOTYH for new applique Quilters.  I hope it helps some of you?  I first made my little house, I was having so much fun making it I forgot to take photos.

Starting to build my wee houses?

I wanted a pink and blue house that rem8nds me of the South of Italy.

I wanted a pink and blue house that reminds me of the lovely memories I have of the South of France and Italy.

Slowly they grow.

These wee house s are twice as big as I thought they were so much easier to make.

So lovely to see these wee houses in there place of HOTYH.

Love my wee houses. Thank you Esther.

All my pieces are just laid there not fussed on yet?  I iron down a piece then applique it down, humidity is so high and I use a very light weight  fussing so the pieces just fall off with all the twisting and turning.   If you press iron fussing to often it goes hard so be careful about pressing you applique pieces to often.

Hgg

I started by ironing down my blue house  first.  Then machine appliqued all the otter edges.  I have a light weight interfacing behind my backing fabric centre.

My perimator of the wee house all appliqued down

My perimator of the wee house all appliqued down and starting on my shutters.  These shutters remind me of opening my bedroom shutters early in the morning in Italy to hear the church bells ring out at 6am . What a lovely memory.

Jbb

JbbEndless threads as I use lots of different coloured threads so have to constantly stop and start?

Hvv

I’ve just spent 1 hr pulling the shutter and window threads through to the back and weaving them in the back? Still another 2030 mins need to do the top left window.

Close up of one of the wee windows and shutters, the little bottom frame is 1/8 wide?

Close up of one of the wee windows and shutters, the little bottom frame is 1/8 wide?  I stitched a very tiny straight stitch out and back in dark maroon for each shutter line.  These wee shutters are 1 1/2 inch’s by 1 inch !

Hbb

Starting to add my leaves this is the fun parting seeing it grow in to a wee picture.

Ggv

My stems are in a deep maroon in  feather stitch, it is the  smallest stitch I could make it

Hbbb

It’s starting to look so sweet! But ohh those endless threads to pull through again LOL

Hbvv

Threads be gone so I can see down more leaves. I pulled them through last night 1 1/2 hrs!

Hbbb

II wove all these threads through last night.  So I won’t get any tangling to day when I do a double blanket stitch around some of the leaves.

Update 6pm

I managed

I managed to do the edges of 12 wee leaves in blanket stitch and attCh 7 more leaves by using feather stitch for there veins.  Now 2 1/2 hrs of pulling threads to the back and securing them down?

Up date nearly 5pm. out in the garden is very little colour, but what is there is so intense. C9FC6CA2-06B1-413D-B61B-FACC57E1EB09 A4D06859-2967-4E2D-9EA2-5B7F9F1CFBC0 D92E3C03-6F45-462A-8930-392BDD62FFAA 0DD40472-DFE8-40BB-BCA4-BDF73B88AEA7 545BD81F-161A-4E8C-8284-1C7B71FC57B6 8583352B-BB44-4FC9-B05D-901BC3BCAF99 19853042-8709-4827-99BA-335EA2B7C46F DBABF899-162F-4795-BC8D-BD6CE767E33E BCA958C8-5668-43EB-8973-A6A5A54B665C

what a lot of work the machine applique looks!! so many tiny details. You must have a large table where you can leave all this sit and have nothing to disturb it when you are taking breaks!

  3. The houses are fabulous!

Hi Angela, these wee houses were fun to make, I was going to do paper foundation as I thought they were much smaller, but I hadd fun just cutting out the fabric from Iron on fussing scrap pieces and building them. Biggest challenge was finding the fabric for the house it self, I wanted a blue and a pink house these were my favourite houses when colouring as a child LOL Cheers Glenda

Thanks so much Linda, now need to machine applique my wee pink house on to my centre of HOTYH. But I have to do a little more applique on my WIL they are only 1/2 applqiued down. I Started appliqueing down my wee birds to day and hope to get them finished to day, they are only tiny but very slow stitching as I need to move the fabric nearly every stitch or second stitch?????? Hope you are not to cold way down there in the South, as its been cold up here even>???? Cheers Glenda

Hi Linda and thanks for stopping by, its all ways so nice to see familiar names pop up here and I then like to drop in on them? Having fun making those wee houses come alive, but they ahve been put on hold till the builders finish down stairs, to much dust around. It must have been so so cold down your way all most snow as its been so cold here this week. Cheers Glenda

Yes some very fine stitching there on those teensy pieces. It’s cold but that’s our winter, still needing rain so I hope it comes too. Cheers to you as well Glenda. Linda xx
