WOW or WIP’s with Esther 24th July 2019

Hello every one and thanks for dropping in.  Its WOW or WIP’s over on Esther’s blog again.  My week has been spent in bed with a virus but think I’m over the worst now.  So no sewing done but a few more stitches on my falcon wall quilt.  But a few are better than none.

It’s keeping me warm as I write this???

It’s keeping me warm as I write this??? The panel is from an antique  roll of fabric which would have been used for lining a man’s jacket. It’s made off 100% wool extremely fine weave.  For my borders  I’ve used heavily woven silk fabric from Obi’s which is sooooo difficult to stitch through, even with my special Japanese needles?  So each stitch takes time?

I’m doing sashiko stitches and so far have not broken my needle, it they were English needles I’d have given up as they would of been breaking so often?

I started  with a pile of pulled reds from the lightest to the darkest for my sashing to join my WIL blocks

LOts were discarded as the tones were wrong,  all my blacks were different too?

This was my first lay out, with the lights starting from the centre but this did not work with my out side light border, so I swapped it around bing it worked?

Some times you have to see the whole picture to make sure it’s working?

It takes time changing the top threads but worth it for what look I want.

Finally I add the last colour pink on the outer  petals and the yellow and orange to the centre of the flower and my flower is finished?

Have not been out in the garden to day my feet are wobbly Ive had a virus for the last 5 days???   So sorry no flowers or creatures yet for this blog.

Update managed to walk around the garden and some of what I stopped to look at?  6B23F804-CC7E-44A6-B708-95696019B0C2 17C413BF-40FA-41C4-81EB-F30ADFC315C7 6B0AFD58-04DC-457F-B594-6487D2C923A9 73CF699A-0798-4720-911E-F5F649BF9D4B 6BBC7D4E-FD47-430D-953A-C4598E1111BC D3A88080-7B45-4A3B-B5FA-D6619CF58A93 2561D832-03AC-4F26-A4BA-9F5C33ED7CC5 0F652D35-F0AE-49F4-BC11-2CB7F03AAD09

Glad you are feeling a little better. The virus here during our winter and we got hit hard. It is a longer recovery that usual. Or is just our age?

Love 💕💕 the flower stitching. Yes, changing colors is so rewarding in the final work. Why rush and not have the look you want? It is worth it.

    Take care, Lennea

    • glenda says:

Thanks for dropping in Lennea just what I needed to cheer me up. No stitiching to day trying to catch up on my blog, and group mail. Its such a beautiful day to out side, cold and crisp but beautiful. Thank goodness the rain has stopped again. Every thing smells so fresh and clean. Hope you are sewing LOL Cheers Glenda

sorry you have been sick – I know it is winter in your land down under and that always seems to come with winter weather doesn’t it. I hope you will be back to normal soon. I love all your projects and fabric – you must have quite a stash!!

    • glenda says:

Hi Karen, I have quiet a stash in just a few colours LOL. Not All colours? Mine seem to be pinks and reds LOL. For some reason the last few years I have been doing a lot of my applique on a black background, have no idea why??? Cheers Glenda

Gorgeous work as always Glenda, hope you feel better soon!

    • glenda says:

Thanks for dropping in Elaine. I do hope that you are coping with the terrible heatwave that is hitting Europe. You are so lucky to be on the river and not in the city. Thinking of you? Hugs Glenda

  5. Gretchen says:

Sorry you’ve been sick, viruses take awhile to recover from. Take the time to recover fully before jumping back into everything full force. The border look so pretty on your quilt, just lovely and your machine applique is wonderful! Your flowers look so nice as usual. Happy Stitching!

    • glenda says:

Hi Gretchen, I’m curled up on my divan, it’s muc( warmer than it’s been, my little companion is panting as she thinks it’s to hot with her thick fur I’ve not trimmed for a while. I usually have a rug across me but I’ve thrown that off tonight. It’s strange how we have jumped out of such cold nights for weeks into warm nights and July and August are meNt to be our coldest months, climate change sure has changed down here this year for us. I like the winter but this one has been awful as it’s been rain day after day when we should not be getting any rain fort 5 to 9 months? I feel sorry for the wild life it must be so hard on their life cycle. I’ve missed seeing the beautiful butterflies and baby birds? So I sew more and quilt more LOL. Cheers Glenda

  6. Joyce Mullis says:

A little “bed stitching” can be such good therapy! Your applique is amazing – coming together quite nicely.

    • glenda says:

Hi Joyce, I’m back on my feet and now trying to catch up on house work??? Dropped in on your blog and I DO like the scrappy quilt you have just made, those touches of black and white sure turned it in to a wee Gem. Some one is going to love it? Cheers Glenda.

  7. Fred says:

I looooove your WIL blocks, and the sashing looks great with them. Pretty quilt!

    • glenda says:

Thanks Fred. Have been having so much fun with my WIL. Had to put it on hold while I made up Part 7 for HOTYH. Think I’ll get those cute wee house finished tomorrow? Such a beautiful quilt to be working on. Lots of lovely detail work so a great challenge, so learning curve is getting bigger LOL. Cheers Glenda.

  8. Alison says:

Hi Glenda. I believe it is 6 weeks to spring. Some days here in Rotorua lately it feels like it has already arrived. I had food poisoning and can’t seem to get my energy back…but if you can pick up a needle – well so can I! Like you I love to applique on a black background, so thought I would try a soft dove grey for my next project. Jinny Beyer range. Got to have something ahead all the time, sending uplifting thoughts your way.

    • glenda says:

I think Spring arrived this week in our area Alison, we have had the coldest last 2 months ever since we moved here over 20 years ago, and then this week we have popped in to beautiful Spring. I’ve even thrown my virus off so throughly I’m surprised? So I hope you are feeling a lot better too. Love Jinny Beyers fabrics and designs
I’ve been a follower of here’s for over 20 years when I first started to learn about patchwork, love all her stages she has gone through with her fabric lines. Specially like her Taupe colurs she is doing now. So your quilt will be beautiful. Take care and give your self some caring quality me time. Cheers Glenda

  9. Glenda, I’m so sorry to hear that you’ve been ill! I hope you’re back to full health soon. Your appliqué is just gorgeous. What kind of thread are you using for your buttonhole stitch? It looks like you use it in the bobbin as well as in the needle? That surprised me — for some reason I thought you’re “supposed” to use a lightweight bobbin thread with that technique, that stuff they use for machine embroidery that comes in white or black — but maybe I’m thinking of satin stitched appliqué. And there’s no such thing as rules in quilting anyway, right? :-). Your garden photos are lovely; they remind me of my in-laws’ home in Naples, Florida. I recognize some of the same plants.

    • glenda says:

Hi Rebecca, I’ve bounced right back so very lucky, so many are suffering with no energy after their flu. You asked aboutthreads, I use bottomline in my boobin and I like to use Guttemann Sulky in my top thread, it works well on my silks and cottons, but I all ways but a light weight interfacing behind my applique? Both are very fine and strong and work well together. I do have my top thread with next to no tension on it though Rebecca, I place the spool of thread on the floor in a glass pull the thread up to a paper clip taped to a stand on my desk, then over to my sewing machine through a safety pin taped on the end of the sewing machine then thread my machine as per normal??? LOL. It’s mickymouse but it takes care of lots of twist in the thread and gives a lovely controlled double stitch for me? Cheers Glenda.

  10. Oh my, I so love what you are doing! It turned out so lovely. Get better soon!

    • glenda says:

Hi RoseMarie and thanks for the get well wishes, they must have worked as I’m been back rearing to go the last 5 days LOL. It’s been several weeks may be months since I did ant concentrated sewing on the machine so been back sewing the last two days has felt soooooo good. Cheers Glenda.
