We are now 1/4 of the way through 2016 and I was going to do so much quilting and sewing this year, I have been constantly sewing but don’t seem to have any thing concrete to show for it all?????  Just hope at the end of 2016 I do LOL

This is what I woke up to this morning!

close up of needles and threads after working for months with a number 11 needle the size 6 for the sashiko feels like Im sewing with a knitting needle but it is suprising how easy I got use to it. It is my first time at shashiko and I realy like it, for this project it is perfect.

Quilting365 Circles first of 4 small quilts doing sashiko quilting

Quilting365 Circles first of 4 small quilts doing sashiko quilting, Im starting to like the back of the quilt more than the front LOL  Backing is a beautiful fabric, it was a winter kimono and is a very heavy weight and hard to sew like sewing a canvas but using the sashiko it is possible to hand quilt and I enjoy doing it. Sashiko the stitches should be even and the back as good as the front but my front stitches are pretty even but the back?????

This is one of my first quilts I made with Japanese fabrics and cotton, the silk lining I used was not up to the wear and tear of use, so Im replacing that and quilting the corners more this is my 3rd year at doing this also!!!!!!

Top brown strip needs replacing then the  whole corner needs to be quilted.

This week I spent a lot of time on my Quilty365 Circles. making the circles and blocks to do my first quilting of them.

Front and back of Quilty365 circles quilt I have basted every 4 1/2 inches as this is all silk and I do not want the silks shifting against each other.

Appliquéing those wee hearts I basted last week I started doing them yesterday they take me 25mins each to appliqué on. Im padding them as I go.   My centre shrunk so much when I washed it I had to add to it.  It is silk and made from a Kimono fabric.  Another thing I will do a little work on today.

Not a lot this week on the wild life.

A visitor last night, a very large and beautiful moth. We caught him and released him out side. Here he is in the jar.

Out side now and this is taken from his back great?

Incredible colour and a lovely perfume. I will add this one again this week as it is still in the garden in full bloom.

Well thats it for this week and today hope you are all having a wonderful Wednesday.

You get so much stitching done each week. I love the view you have each morning. I look out and see 6 inches of snow again. and last week I was raking the lawn and enjoying crocuses and grass starting to turn green. Cooling down to 24. Here it was -10 this morning.
    Blessings, Chris

Hi Chris thanks for dropping in, have been having a lot of mail from my Northern friends in the USA and Canada and it sounds like you are having a bad week of very very cold days and lots of snow. Rather sad for all the spring flowers that had started to flower. We ahve had our driest and hottest weather in Australia the last 12 months on record and they say it will get worse before it gets better, we are lucky we live where we do as we get rain here when the rest of OZ is dry. Hugs Glenda

What beautiful Paridise photos you have and see everyday.. You sure have been busy with the needle.. I have not been able to applique that much but one stitch at a time and it will get done. Hugs

Bunny at present it truly is Paradise weather day after day around 25 26C just perfect, even cool enough to start doing hand quilting again. I’m trying to finish my Little Hazel which now looks more like Big Hazel I did not realise it was going to be that big the centre LOL Hugs Glenda

you might not see all you accomplish but to me it appears you accomplish a lot. working with heavy fabric and hand quilting it is really neat – I love the look of the circles on the back too – very pretty! Glad your weather is finally cool enough so you can do your hand quilting.

Hi Karen how come this week is nearly over?????? LOL I have almost finished my Little Hazel Centre, have got back to working on my circles again and loving them but still have not started sewing the next 90 squares together this part I don’t enjoy so much as the tiny silk squares fray so much, but I have worked out a solution how to fix the edges if they fray to much and there is not enough seam I will add part of a circle on that edge in a tighter weave it will look like the circle is disappearing or starting in to the block. Hugs Glenda

Glenda, you amaze me with the amount of work you get done – and such a variety! Love the hearts on your LE. What a beautiful landscape that surrounds you! Mine is more traditionally Texas – grass, spring flowers, hummingbirds – a few cactus in pots. Nothing as exotic as yours. Seeing your beautiful part of the world is still on my bucket list!

    • glenda says:

Dear Ursula, I now think of you as the Spring Lady as you love to work in yellow which is so difficult for most people to use more than may be 15% at the most in a quilt. my first colour tutor told us a painting, quilt, woven-cloth or a art form in colour should be made up of 60% of the main colour 25% contrasts and 15% yellow, she showed us flowers picked from the garden and every one had this combination. Yellow of course she meant from pale pale yellow almost white to striking full on sun yellow. Well we don’t have Humming birds here Ursula but we do have a tiny tiny wee bird we call the sunbird and he and his mate build their nests in peoples doorways as they have worked out it is the safest place from all pretors, we are lucky enough to have a couple come back each year to the same nest or it is their off spring coming back when the mum and dad die. Enjoy your spring flowers thats some thing we dont have and I miss after growing up in NZ. Thank you for dropping in to say hello. Cheers Glenda

Glenda, your hand quilting is beautiful. Just pinned another quilt this morning. It will be basted and placed on the to do list. Currently we are spring cleaning indoors, awaiting warmer weather so we can get outside and enjoy the garden. Yours is a special feast for the eyes.

Hello Maggie and thanks for stopping by. This time of the year is like our second Spring as our Autumns are so warm and the trees keep growing and flower again, birds mate again?. Very unusual. I hope your snow finally leaves you it must be so disappointing having snow again when you finally thought Spring had come. What was the quilt you just pinned for quilting???? Ive just discovered I need 8 large heart flowers for my PNG quilt not 4 so thats another large 16 heart shapes I need to make so it will be a while before it is finished when I thought I was so close to been finished LOL Hugs Glenda from Down Under.
