WOW or WIP’s with Esther (Aliu) 12th Feb 2014    http://www.estheraliu.blogspot.com

Last Wednesday I managed to get most of the loose threads woven in to all the squares now I just need to complete crocheting  them together and then finally sew them all together.

A couple of more days work on these and they will be on there way.

The blankets we make go to Ethiopia see below photo of  Catherine Hamlin who is still doing surgery once a week and is now 90????? You can see the girls wearing the blankets that are usually made.  What an amazing women Catherine is; she has been nominated for Noble Peace Prize by Ethiopian Government.  She turned 90 two weeks ago?????

Dr Catherine with some of her patients and their blankets we help make.

Sun is trying to come through. We have had a monsoon trough over us the last 4 weeks so while we are needing gumboots to walk about our poor southern country men are having their homes destroyed by bushfire.

I could see the range this morning for the first time in weeks and even some blue sky but sadly it has closed in again and rain is coming yet again. I saw the dreadful floods in England last night and they were forcasting it to be be a lot worse today. My heart goes out to those who have water through their homes.

This is who visits us when we are so wet, they live down by the river in the swamp areas but as it is so wet they move up the hill, he was about 3 metres long and was in the garden Monday night?????

Night spider who built his web right across our drive way last night around 3 metres wide, and he was a mean looking spider, I went to close the gates and when I saw the web and him I left the gates open LOL.

Another interesting night beetle at present, he is around 3inches long.

How is my LE coming along, good question ?????  Well it has been away for over 3 months and came out last week and believe it or not I have been finding time here and there to do a little on it after finding my vase fabric for my second vase that I had put away in a safe place then could not remember where I had stashed it LOL.  I’m sure most of you can relate to this.

I have been procrasternating for about 6 months over making my second 8 hearts for my circle of hearts, for some reason I kept thinking they were difficult to do, finally yesterday I cut them out and today basted with needle and thread and they were no trouble at all. LOL Now to find time to appliqué them and the tiny flowers to the Centre.

Close up of those hearts that I kept on putting of making LOL.

Close up of my other circle of hearts that are finished , I have made my tiny peepholes with french embroidery knots instead of cutting the fabric and doing needle turn appliqué.

I've made up the pieces for my second vase, I have been hunting for the main part of the vase fabric for months, I had folded it in side another fabric and each time I searched for it I could not see it, oh the frustration of a quilter????? So finally I can now start my stems on my second vase hopefully later today I took this photo at 1.30am this morning!!!! .

I have just made my vase 3 and 4 (it is 4.30pm) out of the same fabric as my first two vases, I think I will go with the same fabric for all 4 vases now.

To day I have these wee cherries to cut out and make, I have around 20 cones prepared ready to baste with thread for part 8 , this takes time but I can not use glue as it is around 90% humidity and it is silk. I will sit and watch the winter games while sewing what a lovely day to spend a wet rainy day . I also want to make up lots of wash away clogs to iron on to my fabric for Part 8!!!! Yes I'm along way from Part 8 but it is fun to make all these repeat pieces when I feel like it and not all at once.

Found this dear wee Rabbit dressed partly in a Kimono in a give away box at an opp shop, so I brought her home and dressed her completely, she had on a knee length navy skirt and bow in the front, so she now has a lovely long kimnon on and the bow is at the back where it should be, and she looks so much happier. She even has a wee crocheted flower in her hand and a wee bag in the other one????? She is 4 inches high and is resting on a pin-cushion.

No photo’s of the beach the last few weeks as it has just been far to wet and it is best not to drive down the range in these conditions unless you have too.

I’m linking with Esther this morning. I hope to see lots of your links there also. It is 1.30am now I have just made my vase for Part 5 !!!!!

Cheers Glenda

more beautiful photos like always – so enjoy seeing your nature photos – I haven been slow on LE as well and haven’t touched it in months.

  2. Bunny says:

Your photos are once again amazing. LE is going to be amazing made in silk. For sure it will be a big WOW. Oh that cute rabbit you have so much patience to make a little outfit just adorable.
    Hugs Bunny

  3. Looking good, Glenda – I’m always glad to see your progress.

  4. I just love reading your blog – it is always so interesting. What a sweet little rabbit! Your LE is beautiful, and it keeps getting more beautiful!

  5. Wow! You have certainly made good progress on LE now that you’ve got it out again. Lovely to see it once more, and I’m pleased to hear that you found those hearts easier than you thought. It often happens, doesn’t it, that we build things up into being ‘monster tasks’ when they aren’t?
    Cute bunny too!

  6. Mayleen says:

I can’t imagine doing LE in silk but yours is looking wonderful! I’m glad you found your vase fabric. Folding it away in another piece of fabric sounds like something I’ve done!

You live in a totally different climate than I do – so lush and green. Because we’re in the middle of gloomy winter, your scenery is looking really good to me except for the snake and bugs, that is! We’re looking forward to a sunny sky and some snow melting today. You probably have no idea how happy that makes me!

  7. Wendy says:

    G’day Glenda,
Glad to hear you found your fabric – it can be quite frustrating spending all your sewing time looking for something!!!!
Melbourne blanketed by bushfire smoke for the 3rd day – we are looking forward to some drenching rain.

  8. Margaret says:

Glenda, thanks so much for all your wonderful comments on my blog!
Mary is indeed a member of the LE list. She is quiet and is reluctant to post photos.
I love your vases! Your LE quilt is looking fantastic!

(where it is now snowing 12 inches)

  9. Lynette says:

Yikes~! I would be leaving that spider and the gate alone, too! I love the colors you’ve got going in your LE – the purples are so pretty in there.

  10. Esther Aliu says:

What an inspiring story and how motivating too, to see what a difference a single person can make in the lives of so many! Still, can’t look too long at your snake pic Glenda! I do love your progress on LE, I think its the kind of quilt you have to take breaks from, just to keep it in perspective, after all its so much work and anyway, yours looks so beautiful.
As for your kimono bear – you always dig out the best things Glenda, that is so charming and fitting too given how much kimono joy you’ve shared with everyone!!
