WOW or WIPs 24April Dragonfly Tree 2018

Writing this to link with Esther to day on her WOW or WIP’s

Where I left you all last week I was working on completing my Black and Red Sample Block quilt top. I did finish it Yeeeeeeeeppeeeyyyyyy

Khhh

I did finish the Black and Red sampler top, now it sits waiting to be quilted???

Jjnn

My first 3 blocks completed of Esther Aliu’s free BOM this year Queens  Garden . *

Jnnn

On Tuesday a friend passed on to me some beautiful quality cottons that were been used for men’s shirts, they will be wondeful for the back of some of my quilts.

last night Nancy showed me Carly Breyer Fallets free design Dancing Tree, it set clogs whirling  in my brain,  Ive just finished designing a quilt top from seeing Carly’s Dancing Tree see it at the bottom of my blog?

Hbbv

Hbbv

Jnnn

1st a drew my tree in pencil

Hhbb

then with a black marking pen

Hbbbb

paper taped with masking tape it quick and does the job well.

Hggv

starting to cut out my tree!

Jhgggg

Moved my cut out to the black cotton fabric I want to use and started pinning it in place

Hhgbb

It slowly evolves.

Jhhbb

and THERE it is . Now to trace all around my tree edges

Hhgbgg6

remove template and there is my tree shape. now to cut it out. I used a rotary cutter to do this it gives nice sharp edges.

Jhhbbb

one big jumble of a mess but there is a tree there some where.?

Uhhbbb

There is my tree!!!!

Hbbvvg

I lay a huge woollen blanket down with a thick cotton sheet on top as my ironing board for the next stage.

Uhbb

This was my black fabric with iron on fussing behind it .

Kjjhb

A rayon cloth was given to me a few years ago, not sure if it was for a sarong or a sofa cover????? But Im going to use it now. Ive ironed on a light weight interfacing to the back

Jhhbb

Smoothed out and ready to go?

Jjnnbb

I started from the bottom of the tree and gently ironed it down first.

Jjhhb7

slowly the tree uncurls!

Jhbb

And a new birth has happened.

Jhbbb

I keep playing till it lies as it should.

Hbbb

Im happy with it.

Unhbb

I culd have put it on a white back ground?????

Ihhhbgv

But choose some thing more radical!!!!

Hggff

Then thought about butterflies and dragon flies,  Dragonflies demanded the whole quilt to them selves

Uhhhgg

So the Dragonfly Tree was found

Hhgb

These colours are the true colours taken in day light not night lights.

Jnnn

This wee tree is one metre tall and about 25 years old I trim in twice a year to keep it as a bonsai tree! Yesterday  morning!

Hbvv

2 hrs later?

Jhhhb

Overnight Mr spider moved in and Mrs spider laid eggs?

Hbbbb

this is my light that hangs over my cutting table?  They are now in my vacuum cleaner?????

Uhbnn

THis stone as my mother’s she had it from when

I was a child, a friend of mine who is a local silversmith artist set it for me and called it Mother and Daughter. I LOVE it. She gave it to me on Tuesday Afternoon.
