7th Sept 2016 Another shoulder mens tie gusset bag.

How do Wednesdays sneak up on me?  I think Im on track and then I find it is Wednesday and I’m not ready.  Wednesday is the day I like to have for my email, reading other quilters blogs and looking at quilts that I wish I had the time to make LOL.  This week I have spent most of my sewing  time on my Mens Tie gusset bag which I showed the start of last week.

Draft of the shape I use to make these Tie bags

This is were I left off last week

Front and back of the bag Im working on. Today I found two ties I may be able to use for the gusset.

Front and back of the bag Im working on. Back still needs two more or three logcabins and the lace need to be sewn down but I will leave that till last so the lace stays fresh. Today I found two ties I may be able to use for the gusset.

Back of bag finally complet;y covered with logcabin blocks I needed 15 all up to do this plus some strips to fill in some small holes.

Front and back ready for the bias binding around the edges. I made some up from the same material as I used on the front of bag.

Bias pinned ready for the sewing machine, I cut the bias at 2inch and then iron in 1/2 this gives a better strength for sewing in the gusset.

Binding sewn on and two ties waiting to be sewn together by machine.

Binding sewn and now turned over the edges and waiting to be stitched down by hand, I hand stitch this down to give a nice clean look.   Two mens ties waiting to be sewn together by machine for the gusset.

Ties are great to use for gussets but make sure you use ties that are roughly the same shape and size or they will not work.  you can use silk or poly it does not mater but I have found that poly wear better, I now add buttons on the very bottom of bag where the ties are the widest and they take the wear not the ties.  This is were the bag sits when put down.

Gusset pinned to neck of bag this is cut at 3inchs then folded as it gives a nicer look been a little deeper.

Jioned ties make the gusset for this bag, I have chosen and pink and dark brown this ties in with the back and front. Gusset is not attaches just showing you what it will look like, I have since echo quited the ties by machine and now sewing the gusset on by hand. A slow job but enjoyable when listening to a book.

ties come up and over lap each other and form the handle for the bag, by echo quilting the ties they are more firm, stable, and don't scrunch up in the hand when carrying it.

Hopefully I will complete the front of the bag as I have done on the back by next week and can share it in photos with you.

I was looking for some thing and found this photo instead of my antique Crazy quilt I bought online from the USA  around 20 years ago it was a UFO the quilter who must have started it around the 1930’s ( the backing of the blocks are all flour bags) only completed the 6 panels and many of the silks have completely fallen apart and I have been replacing them.  I only have one panel to complete but I must have put it away yet again and forgotten about it. I must see if I can find it and finish that panel LOL

6 panels of my 1930’s antique Crazy Quilt  I love repairing this quilt as it is such fun looking at all the lovely fabrics and dreaming about what they were used for in the original quilters family life.

Not a lot in the garden to share, I have a sore leg so have not spent many hrs in it this week.  But took these couple of photos this morning.

A native orchid; it is so fragile and delicate, plus has such a lovely gentle perfume but sadly only lasts a couple of days in full flower. we are luckly to have in in our garden.

A very wet drab miserable day but it did turn nicer midday and stopped raining.  Lucky for me I had a Drs appointment down the range and it was lovely and sunny down there, I went to the beach and meet my girlfriend and we sat and chatted by the ocean for a couple of hrs. It was lovely.

This is what I arrived to after leaving my wet miserable home, just beautiful

There was my lovely friend waiting for me and there we sat and gazed at the water gently washing in on to the beach and shared lots of laughter.

I just love that bag you are making – so very, very unique. The plants are so exotic – the pink an orchid? I bet they grow easily there if I buy one you have to have them in the house and need special care – mine have died, I have tried two over the years. Your leg better get better soon!

  2. Hi Glenda, haven’t talked to you in a while

Hi LeeAnna time slips through my fingers now so fast that even the months come and go to quickly. But it’s wonderful when I see an old friends name pop up and I think of their
      lovely creations.

I’m off to visit you as it is some thing I too have not done for ages. Hugs Glenda Down Under.
