25th May 2016 Progress on my Japanese quilt.

This is from one of Estehr's BOM several years ago

These felt tulips are from  a design of Esther’s from a BOM several years ago called For Get MeNot.

Not quiet sure how it is Wednesday all ready it just seems like yesterday I blogged?

Not much to show as I have been working on my Large heart flowers all week, I have one more to appliqué on and they are finished then I can add the borders.  I did finish a evening carry bag for my DSIL .

I added the large heart flowers as I felt that the  purple triangles were to stark. Borders are not attached, still have one heart large heart flower to appliqué on.  It’s not laying flat as 3/4 of the quilt is lying on a heavy mat and 1/4 on tiles.

Oh my, Glenda! It does sound as though you are a bit fed up with the rain that you’ve been having. It’s a nuisance when you want to get on with tidying, isn’t it? Your garden still looks amazing though.
Your sewing is amazing too – you’ve put your indoor time to very good use! I particularly love that stunning bag (and as purple is one of my favourite colours, I bet that I’d have loved your jacket when it was whole too!).

Dear Plum, yes you are right about the rain, this. Time of the year we usually never see rain for months, it is so unusable so difficult to cope with, but I think it has gone as I have just been out side and there is the most beautiful full moon shinning down on us and the reflections in the river are beautiful. So hopefully we will dry out quickly and not get the leechs and to many Mosquitos hatching out. We need to clean up the leaves quickly here as they breed in the damp foliage. Good thing about the rain is that I can sew a lot more LOL. Hugs Glenda

so much rain always makes for a big clean up. We had storms yesterday and I woke up to them again today. I can some of the mulch near the garden washed away and I will need to rake it up if I can and bring it back. More rain expected all week which makes for a humid time outside.
Love your quilts that you show – when you fuse do you find it hard to hand stitch through – which kind do you use?

Hi Karen, I have woken to a beautifull sunny day again so hopefully the rain is gone for several weeks at least. We usually don’t have rain for months during our winter. It’s strange weather for us, temps are sitting on 23c all day and night very strange. I saw the most beautiful moon rise last night quiet magical with lots of moon reflections in the river so mat be we truly are in for some dry weeks. I did not get any sewing done yesterday as I was out side cleaning up, and looks like I will be out there today to. I use a very very light weight fusing and I use a size 11 needle when doing the blanket stitch to stitch it down, I need to watch for glue build up on my needle but do try not to quilt any where I have used the fusing, but as I only use it on small pieces mostly I don’t quilt through it. I also don’t quilt my quilts as mch as become the fashion over the last 10 years. I like a softer puffy cuddly feel, just my choice. Hugs Glenda

  3. Jenny says:

Know how you feel about the rain as has been similar here though everyday starts lovely and sunny but by 11am, before things have dried out in come the clouds and the rain is back. It is finally too cool though for the mosquito’s and I am so glad we don’t have to contend with leeches. Love the bag, Esther’s designs do lend themselves so well to ther projects. Your japanese quilt is beautiful, loved seeing all the different details.
    Hugs Jenny

Hi Jenny, my brother who has been visiting us left here in 25C and arrived back to around 3C so sad he was coming back to live hereLOL. Hubby asked me yesterday if I ever thought about going back to NZ to live and I said NEVER I hate any temp below 20C LOL. I love waking up and not having to rush to the shower to get warm and pulling on piles of wooden clothes to feel warm!! Every day I think how lucky I am to live in this constant warmth. I do miss the spring flowers, knitting, spinning and weaving but not much else LOL. For those of you who do not know Jenny take time to visit her blog she has just made the most amazing quilt with stunning different frogs a real must see. Hugs Glenda

  4. You garden and quilting projects are beautiful ; I had to smile at the dear little ladybug 🙂

    • glenda says:

Hi Deb so lovely to hear from you, thanks for the positive comment on my quilting projects which are far to many for me to count now??? Only good thing is I know I’m not the only quilter who has Dozens of UFOs waiting to be finished LOL. I did stop buying fabric several years ago but family, friends, and people who know I quilt keep passing on fabric to me so my stash still keeps growing. I do try to cull but some how just before passing it on I have a look at the pile and think Oh I might use that and the pile becomes smaller LOL. Cheers Glenda

  5. Gorgeous bag, Glenda, and they are my favourite colours too! Love your Japanese quilt, fabulous fabrics. I like quilts to look soft and puffy too!

I’m sorry to see the caterpillars ate your plant!

I don’t mean to sound like I’m advertising, but have you seen Lara Buccella’s blog – Buzzinbumble.com? Lara has written a book about her method of appliqué, and has been running a blog hop with giveaways for the past few weeks. This is the last week. It was just a thought ….. might save stitching through the glue, as I know that can be a real pain?

Hi Barbara thanks for dropping in and taken the time to stop and chat. My DDIL thought it was lovely too LOL It was a challenge I gave my self making it in felts instead of cotton fabric or silk fabric which I use a lot.
I trying to finish a quilt for some one before July but time keeps slipping by and Im getting further and further behind. It will be very puffy when finished as there wont be time to do a lot of quilting on it LOL
This week its the possums, bats and rats eating the fruit on the palm trees and leaving their horrid yucky droppings below the palm trees. so I have to be very careful where I walk LOL.
I do know Buzzinbumble I have been following her for a few years, I loved her elephant quilts when she was making them. Thanks for thinking of me and sending her link though much appreciated thats what this link up is all about I think learning and sharing. I do a lot of appliqué on top of appliqué so try to avoid quilting the actual appliqué and do a lot of echo quilting around them instead.
I would like to 4 sets of arms or days 4 times longer to get the quilt tops finished that I have in the pipeline LOL. Hugs Glenda
