27th April 2016 Circles and more circles

Not sure where the last 7 days went but they sure flew by.  I Don’t have much to show this week but I have been sewing steadily throughout the week mostly doing my sashiko quilting and sewing my 365 circles

Below are some squares that I unpicked from a 1/2 finished quilt I found in an Opp Shop.

Some squares I unpicked from a 1/2 made quilt I found in an Opp Shop. Im going to cut them up in to 2inch squares to use as my headers and enders which Im making in to 4 square patch blocks then joining those and finally ending up with 36 square patch blocks!!!!may be one day will have enough to make a postage stamp quilt? sitting below sewing machine is a64 patch and to the left is a pile of 4 patches they grow so quickly while Im working on Little Hazel.

these are 6inch blocks but every fabric is a different weight, the pink is so fine you can see through it, I have had them in the draw for years now so finally they will be used.

I have been doing sashiko hand quilting on my 365circles quilt during the week,  all though it is slow going as the backing is of such a tight weave and I can only do one stitch at a time Im over 3/4 of the way now.

My next 90 circles are made up ready to be sewn together, here are some of them Im sewing together this morning.   I need to get these done or I will fall behind on my days.  these take me till the beginning of June. Then I will have another 160 circles to make up!!!!!

Some times you have some thing and don’t realise what it is. For years may be 25 I have had these fabrics, they were  given to me while in PNG the person who gave them to me said they were to difficult to work with, and yes they are as the weave is sooo tight and the fabric has this smooth glossy shine to it. To day I woke up to what it is or what I think it is Chintz fabrics.  In the past I have cut out the flowers and appliquéd them on to borders of my quilts,  doing buttonhole stitch around the flowers then added embroidery as well.  It takes me hours to do but Im sure they are Chintz fabrics now??????

Chintze fabrics I think??? the colours are glorious and the flowers so beautiful.

You can see the ones on the right are ripening all ready.

Below is all that  remands of the bush that holds the berries on the palms, they look stunning if spray painted black, silver or gold, the florists love them to us in very large flower arrangements.

You don’t often see this variegated Lilly but it makes a stunning feature in a garden.

Just been repotted, I love to add animals china, pottery or wooden in the garden for the grandies to find.

Two little chairs I ahve rescued from the shop, I have started cleaning them up and I think I will add some flowers and then varnish them?

New plant Rod brought home on Friday and I potted up over the week end, we don’t have this colour in the garden.

Its repotting time, after a year the soil has compressed so much and is about 4 to 6 inches from the top of the pots so we remove all the stones (to keep the turkeys from digging out the plants)  and fill with fresh potting mix.

Stones on the below pot are all crystal boulders, if you cut them in half they are full of crystals. all found locally in OZ

it is so interesting to see all of your tropical plants as it is rare to see them here unless they are in a Botanical Garden at a zoo or museum some place. Such tall, tall trees so nice and to have your big bunch of bananas to ripen!! wow – your circles are coming along so nicely!! Looks like you have your work cut out for you with all the re-potting of plants good idea to put the rocks on top of the soil

I have been enjoying sashiko quilting my first Quilty364 circles quilt. Time to be able to sit and enjoy been out side as its not to hot. Have completed repotting and now need to sit out side and enjoy the sun as its no t to hot. Hugs Glenda

Hi Kathleen I’m about 2200ks from where you live LOL. Thank you for dropping in.I can see by your blog your hands are rather tied at present with looking after those adorable looking children. But they grow up so quickly we have to make the most of the time they visit us. That new quilt you are starting looks interesting, I will look it up. Cheers Glenda

    Dear Glenda

Your 365 Circle quilt is looking stunning. I see you do Fairy gardening on a large scale?
In North America, they have these tiny little figures and bits and bobs, they call it fairy gardens. I love the way one look at a picture and realize there is a giraffe standing in between the plants, Is that a cat? It is discovering many treasures where you least expect them. We finally have sunshine!

    • glenda says:

Dear Maggi, I have a fairy walk in my garden, it was there for my first granddaughter who is now Uni doing art !!! Yes it is a cat, I have little cats and big cats, I have pigs, camels, elephants, tortoises, lots of different animals to surprise the grandchildren. Did you get that late snow fall last week? Crazy weather isn’t it. We have been having rain all through April when it I s usually dry all April. Hugs Glenda

  4. I love what you are doing with Quilty 365 and the beautiful flowers and plants were a joy to see! 🙂

    • glenda says:

  5. Bunny says:

Always an interesting post love your garden of amazing flowers and plants. Wow you sure have a ton of circles they are terrific. Well done. Hugs

    • glenda says:

Hi Bunny, at times I think it would be great to live in a Unit in town and no grounds to look after then I think of all the noise and glad I’m still here LOL. Mould is my problem this year insid and out. Our concrete and pavers seem to turn black over night. I just moved all the pot plants off the Patio so there will be less water on them so hopefully that will help. Orchard is full of fruit as we are having a second spring, lots of bananas, Paw paws, oranges, and dragonfruit at present. Hugs Glenda

  6. Plum Cox says:

I love to hear about you reusing fabric in such a different way from the original quilt – looking forward to seeing your progress with the leaders and enders!
Your sashiko circles look great – perfect quilting for the quilt.
Love to see those tropical plants and how you enjoy them in your garden – amazing to those of us in temperate climes!
    Enjoy your week ahead!

    • glenda says:

Hi Plum lovely to hear from you. I have been endlessly cutting up my scraps for my leadears and Enders, I honestly did not realise how often I started and finished sewing, up to date I have over 700 little 1 1/2 squares sewn together that’s 350 times I have sewn some thing together the last two months and I usually do not sew on a machine LOL. I will show you next week on my blog what I’m going to do with them. Well the first 15 64patch blocks. I’m working on my last 20 tiny Quilty364circles for my second quilt so all most were I want to be. I’m fighting an endless fight with the mould this year, it is growing so fast as we are still having rain and temps are higher than usual so it grows so quickly Like the weeds in the garden. Hugs Glenda

  7. Gretchen says:

Your circles are looking great. Be careful using the thinner fabrics, especially if it is old. It will be the first to shred. As always, the tour of your garden is fantastic. Your plants are so different from what we have in northern Indiana. Blessings, Gretchen

    • glenda says:

Hi Gretchen thanks for dropping in and Ye s you are right about the fine silk fabrics, I have l earns the hard way with using them. I’m now repairing a. wedding quilt I made 15 years ago because I used the fine silks and it really should only be used in wall quilts. What I’m using now if it’s fine I’m backing it with a iron on facing. We are going in to Autunm down here but because we are in the wet tropics it’s like another spring with birds nesting again, tress in full blossom, we never have a real Autunm or winter so our garden is in full bloom again. Hugs Glenda
