My Beautiful LE has come to a stand still again as I'm not happy with

My Beautiful LE has come to a stand still again as I’m not happy with my latest oak leaf????  SO it is has just been sitting this last week.

My day has started with bread cooking,  lime and sugar syrup been boiled up for the coming very hot days ,  I have just pressed 4 circles I made at 1.30am this morning LOL  and have cut out another 10 circles.

These are some of the circles I have cut out of my taupe japans kimono

These are some of the circles I have cut out of my taupe japans kimono, not many of them are completed I try and have at least one completely appliquéd a day, I just choose one to complete that takes my fancy.  I started making them about a month ago after seeing Karens lovely fossil fern ones.  Back ground fabric is a kimono that I’m unpicking as I go.  I will be unpicking some more this morning.

I just love making up circles all ways have done no  not matter how big or how small they are.  When I taught sample quilts there were always rings of circles, then recently I was making lots of extra cherries for my LE centre very tiny ones.  Even tinter ones for the oval shapes!.  Now I have the quilty365 bug that was started by Audrey  in Nov.  I first saw these circles been made by Karenhttp://karensquilting.com/blog/she is making hers in fossil fern fabrics and I feel in love with what I thought  was  a new quilt by her but when I read in more detail she tells you about linking up with Audrey making these circles. If you want to know more just type in quilty365  and you will find out more, I’m sure having fun making mine  You can see what I’ve been  up to during the week on my blog making my circles.

4 circles on background squares I made in the middle of the night over a cup of tea as I could not sleep very unusual but what I way to not be able to sleep making circles and a cup of tea LOL  Circles lying on the purple fabric I have just cut out this morning.   Pile of wee squares on the right front need to be appliquéd on to the blocks. left pile need to have a running stitch around the edges to pull over freezer paper and then press to be ready for the next stage which is to be appliquéd on to the squares.

In the garden this week and today.

Glenda, what beautiful pictures. Gary was drooling over the beetle pictures. We are up at our RV in the mountains and were going home tomorrow but it looks like we may have to stay longer. The rivers are flooding between us and home so we might be stuck until they go down. Didn’t bring any sewing with me this time so my hands are idle. Take care my friend and have a good Christmas. Julie

Dear Julie I’m always sorry I’m not able to send Garry any of the beautiful bugs from here, but there are strict controls now posting them by mail, one has to have a certificate to collect and post them. My DDIL has a friend who ships live insects from here but I think they only ship around Australia. Enjoy your time in the mountains, are you having snow down as far as where you live over Xmas????? We will be in the late 30’sC so spending most of the time around the pool or beach. Hugs Glenda

I just love your circles and glad to see you are making them too – love the fabrics you are recycling! those bugs – wow love them too

    • glenda says:

Hi Karen I really and truly hooked on these circles, all though they are only 4 1/2 ” squares it is surprising how many different ways you can add the circles to add interest and fun to each wee block. Best part is playing with ALL these lovely old fabric and studying them all over again from a weavers point of interest. . Hugs Glenda

Love your circles! This will be a stunning quilt! I have resisted the temptation so far…

    • glenda says:

Hi Elaine, well you are strong than I am but these tiny circles are the perfect way for me to use up some of my precious antique Japanese fabrics, they are so full of texture and colour this is a great way to show them in all their glory with a frame around each one. Have chosen to use a fairly neutral background for them all but it is also full of texture and has a strong weave, by turning the warp and the weft each time I place the squares it is giving a different look to the back ground fabric also. I;m sure having a lot of fun, Cheers Glenda PS I just love how your Owl and the Pussy cat wall hanging is coming along, hours and hours of tiny stitches but how beautiful it will be when completed. Your Clouds look fantastic.

  4. Plum Cox says:

What wonderful circles! Funnily enough I’ve been cutting out circles too – but much more regular / less interesting that yours! I might have to make two circle mini quilts now, one following your more organic approach!
Brilliant photos to show us your patch again – thank you!

    • glenda says:

Hi Plum, I have and these fabrics for more years than I wish I could count LOL. I started collecting Kimono fabrics back in the late 70’s and 80s when we were doing business in Japan and I would see these old kimonos for a few dollars in the second hand shops, I was a weaver in NZ then and it was the weaving that caught my eye more than any thing. Then in the 90’s you could buy scraps from shops that made up the kimono’s by 2000 they had become to expensive to buy from the shops as patchwork was catching on big time in Jpan and you had to find second hand shops tucked away in the outer suburbs and again buy just the kimonos which I did constantly till a few years ago. So I have some lovely scraps and lengths of fabric just waiting to be used. Hugs Glenda

What great circles, I love them. You might be sending me off on a new tangent!!!
Great garden photo’s, love seeing them each blog. The frog and beetle are gorgeous and the stick insect is so intriguing but you can keep your spiders, they give me the creeps. The coconut spiders in Raro were bad enough to live with.
Am sure you will sort your Oak Leaves and get back to LE shortly – as I am hoping to do.
    Hugs Jenny

    • glenda says:

Dear Jenny I do hope you get the bug and join in the Quilty 365 knowing you you will be like me and go off on a tangent as you said LOL. GOSH I”m having fun with them, they are very very restful as there take NO effort to make and they grow so quickly. Well those coconut spiders are pretty creepy so I don’t blame you for not liking them LOL. Hugs Glenda

  6. Esther Aliu says:

A turkey in QLD? how fascinating! Is she aggressive? What will happen, nest wise in the seasons ahead? How many do you have running up around there?!

Glenda, your LE is just stunning, it’s making me swoon, I’m in love with it. And your gorgeous circles are looking so promising too. Like you, I love a circle. I find there’s something so satisfying about them – that is just my kind of block, what a great idea.

  7. LOL I am not sure I’d want a frog on my ironing board ! How nice to see your lovely blooms, critters AND the circles…..with that gorgeous background fabric! 🙂
