Sun is back with us at last 8th July 2015

Back working on my 1930’s double Grandmothers Flower Garden and Trying to dry things out as we have finally had a few days of sun since July came in.

I have 4 cameras and none of them are working and I’m down to using my Mobile phone camera now??????  For some reason it takes 13 steps to down load the photo’s to my iMax ????

I thought it would only take an hour to sort out the washing area and side veranda but it is now after midday but chaos has been removed and you can walk down the side veranda again.  Towels are all hanging out in the sun now and the light is streaming in.

Quilting around the tiny hexagons I have just added to back of the quilt as a binding. It is slow as there are 5 thicknesses to quilt through.  But it will give a nice sharp edge tot he finished quilt.   Last week I received some more wash away freezer paper so able to get back to working on this lovely old quilt.  I find it very rewarding to finish this lovely old quilt and so relaxing.

Chaos in my sewing room

Chaos in my sewing room and I don’t think I will get any thing done here today as it has taken me 3 hrs to do jus the side veranda this morning, so Esther you are not the only one with chaos in their sewing room.

Off to link up with Esther on her WOW or WIP’s today after finally been able to down load a few photo’s.    http://www.estheraliu.blogspot.com/

Happy stitching every one and thanks for dropping in.

Cheers Glenda

We also have been having a lot of rain the past 2 weeks, but that is part of summer in Canada. On the other hand, we have now have lots of wild fires in the western provinces.

It must bring you great joy and contentment to look out over that view from your verandah every day.
    Blessings,
    Chris

Hi Chris I was so sad to read that the wild fires are breaking out, I can not think of any thing worse than fire, we get a lot of them down in the south here during the summer and they leave nothing after they fly through.
Yes I do love my back veranda Chris I stop and drink it in every morning even after 20 years. Hugs Glenda

Love the hexagon quilt! I like your idea of using hexagons as binding too

    • glenda says:

Hi Elaine thanks for stopping by; I have spent the last 30 mins going over and over your photo’s of your day with Trish Burr your little blue bird is incredible, hard to believe that you used so many different coloured threads just for the eye. How wonderful to spend a whole day with other like minded people, I for one appreciate you sharing so many photos of your work. If any of you like embroidery stop by Elaine’s blog and enjoy her photos and skills with the needle. Cheers Glenda

I had to laugh at your photos of the washing area and side veranda. We are in the same kind of state in the conservatory as Mike has decided he needs to paint the hardwood frame. It seems to require all sorts of tools, paints, primers etc being left all over the place. I hate mess too so feeling a bit disgruntled! Sewing room mess I can deal with.
Have you tried iCloud for your photos? I just take the photo on my phone and it magically appears on my laptop without me having to do anything. The 1930s hexagons look so pretty but it is the first time I have heard of hexagons used for a binding. I am looking forward to seeing it finished.

    • glenda says:

Hi Catherine, yes I to hate chaos like this, I did finish the side veranda but ended up doing more than I planned and have manned to get rid of several things that should not have been there like 3 rat traps LOL How ever my sewing room still looks the same. Yes to iCloud I do have that but for some reason my iMax is refusing to talk to my phone, I have NO trouble down loading photo’s directly to my iMax with any of my cameras it is just this phone.
I’m using the hexagons as I want to keep the hexagon shapes all around the outer edge no straight lines so this was the easiest way I could think of doing it. You can check in to 4th June 2014 to see how I’m making it. I’m also quilting the whole of the quilt by hand about 1/2 way I think???? Cheers Glenda

The hexagon quilt reminds me of the one I inherited from my mom, made by her mother. It is very worn and tattered. I’ve enclosed it in fine tulle to preserve her. You are so inspiring with your work on older projects. We actually had a week of sunshine too.

    • glenda says:

Gretchcen I dropped in to your blog earlier today and do envy your veggie garden, it is just far to hot to have one here and if we grow any thing thats not close to the house the wild turkeys dig it up over night. I did buy a large tomato plant at our stall last week and will try growing it in our front entrance but in a large pot plant. It’s a race between us or the mice, caterpillars , grasshoppers or the birds if they grow LOL. Spent last week making mango chutney and date loaves for the local church stall which we hold once a month the money goes to wards maintenance on the church which is wood and over 100 years old so needs constant help. Hugs Glenda

glad you finally have some sun and that you have gotten your chaos organized. My sewing room is a little still in chaos or has it moved to the living room? you will be glad to get your hexie quilt done for sure but I bet it will be well worth it in the end to finish it as you are doing.

    • glenda says:

Morning Karen, I have been following your progress with your new quilt on your quilting frame, border looks lovely in the 1inch lines they are simple but eye catching yours are so perfectly even. When I saw your bag it reminded me of my tie shoulder bag I started several months ago then got put aside for some reason. so went and pulled it out again so thanks for the reminder LOL Cheers Glenda

  6. Maggie says:

    Dear Glenda

Now I don’t feel so bad. Our garden looks like a disaster, with all the stone, soil, fill and wood all over. We are doing it ourselves. My sewing room has not seen me in a while. When my son wanted to vacuum for me, I asked him to do the rest of the house, just not my sewing room. We have almost finished with getting the slope high enough, from the house towards the rest of the garden. The firepit is no more, took up a lot of space, we never used it. It came with the house when we bought it. We’ve had another bought of rain yesterday. I love your views, have a cup of tea and relax. Everything gets done, sooner than we realize. Wish we could leave our washing on a washing line to dry. Have to use a tumble drier all year round.
Your Grandmothers flower garden quilt is beautiful.
    Maggie

    • glenda says:

      Hi Maggie
I have so much stuff floating around the floor in my sewing room you can not vacuum in there LOL. I cleaned up around my chair in the lounge and had to fine room for stuff from 3 draws and 1 top they ended up in the sewing room on my work bench LOL but you can see my lounge chair now and me when I’m in it LOL Going to make a coffee now and sit out and do some quilting on one of my Tieshoulder bags!!!! Sounds like you need to take a break also with all the ground work going on??? What is a ground pit????? Hugs Glenda

  7. Plum Cox says:

    Hi Glenda,
I always love to see the views around your house – wonderful!
I’m glad that you got the laundry chaos sorted out. Always good to feel that you’ve got at least one area ‘under control’!
Love your method of edging your hexagon quilt – brilliant idea to do it like that to keep the edge shape. xx

    • glenda says:

Morning Plum, thanks for dropping in, my sewing room is still looking like a tornado has hit it LOL. Last night I sat and quilted I was on my own and it was so quiet and relaxing, its not often I’m home alone LOL. Our family who live below us are away on holiday for 4 weeks so its extra quiet with out the Grandies dropping in each day. Was great to see you have pulled out your DJ again I have done the same but have to install my software again to print some new patterns off. Like you I started mine many years ago LOL. Cheers Glenda

  8. Sylvia says:

    Dear Glenda,
your Hexagon Flower quilt is just awesome. Love your layout and colors.
    Greetings,
    Sylvia

    • glenda says:

Thank you Sylvia, but most of the credit goes to a 1930’s unknown quilter, I’m just adding the binding and hand quilting it; I fell in love with it when I saw it on the internet and wanted to finish it for this unknown quilter. Cheers Glenda

  9. Jenny says:

Hi Glenda, looks all we quilters have the same problem with sewing room chaos.
Spent two days on mine last week and already fabrics are coming out and not going away again. You will love having a new washing machine and the side verandah looks great after your hard work. Your patience with using hexagons to bind your quilt is amazing and the result is looking fabulous. Always love your garden photo’s you have a wonderful home. Hugs, Jenny

    • glenda says:

Hi Jenny, so sorry it has taken so long to reply this week, some weeks we don’t seem to have time to our selves, I see that you have had to have a forced rest???? may be some one knew you needed it LOL. I still have not started on my sewing room tidy up!!!! But I do have clean paths and paves LOL. Thanks for the kind message on the Hexagon quilt, it is Kingsize and is like the never ending story it never finishes LOL. Hugs Glenda
