Back using Yo Yo’s !!!!!!!!

I have been given some warm tops for this winter,  they are a perfect fit and I will wear them a lot but they need a little colour for me, so instead of adding a scarf each time I wear them I have added some Yo Yo’s for permeant colour??????

Jersey as it arrived last week wight he Jo Jo's resting on it.

Close up I sewed these on using Bottom line and used very tiny stitches as this is a stretch material and this way the stitching won't snap so easy. I wore my top this morning

Now to find those small hexagons for the other top LOL.

I’m in need of a change as I have been doing whip stitch for nearly 3 weeks and my hands are becoming sore from the same position, so I have pulled a beautiful indigo shiro full cloth made of heavy cotton from Japan.. It is a modern piece but still made in the traditional way, weeks and weeks of work a very very special cloth and I would hate any one to use it as a table cloth or cut it up when I’m gone so to save it I’m going to make it in to a single bed quilt.

Modern Indigo whole cotton cloth from Japan

Modern Indigo shibori whole cotton cloth from Japan It has a sort of blurred look to it as it is hand tied then died not machine done.  SO so beautiful.  I will try quilting it with a bigger quilting stitch than I normally do as it is a heavy weight fabric than our quilting fabrics.

While hunting for this whole cloth I came across my beautiful vintage kimono dressing gown  that is lined with a heavy cotton indigo fabric and the top is a heavy whit cotton all hand stitched with sashiko , blue on white.

Top side of night Kimono all hand stitched before making in to

Top side of night Kimono all sashiko hand stitching is done before sewing it in to the kimono . This is a warm night kimono which would have been worn after a bath like we wear a dressing gown over our bed wear.  Note that there are 4 panels making up the Kimono  they have alternated the clam shells, first and third panel the clams are going up and the other two panels they re going down??????? But the seams are so good you don’t notice this!!!!  Close up of sashiko stitching all done by hand

Indigo hand died lining of a night Kimono Use d as we would use a dressing gown over our bed wear

Indigo hand died lining of the night Kimono, this is done very like tie dyeing , most of their indigo dying for a kimono is much finer but most bedding was bold like this, this fabric would also have been used to cover their bed quilts too

Sun 19th April

Last night I was back  whipping my QAYG blocks I have 2 left to whip for the 3rd panel then it is down to whipping the 3 panels together .

Well some one thinks its nice and warm!!!!!! All panels completed now and 1/2 way through joining them all together.

I’m going to use a roll of  yukata cotton fabric (A yukata (浴衣) is a Japanese garment, a casual summer kimono) for the border, it will wash well and be softer than the wool to the body touch. This will add another 14inches to the top and side so now it measures roughly 60″by 80″  I will fold the fabric in 1/2 (Kimono fabric is woven at 14″ wide and 7 metres long usually)  add batting and machine quilt it first then whip stitch to the quilt as I have done the blocks.

IMG_0345I purchased some wadding for the edges yesterday 2 metres by 1 1/2 and it was only the synthetic but cost me $17.00 ??????  SO now I can complete it hopefully this week-end.

My Easter plants are growing so quickly and have not stoppep flowering which is so lovely seeing them each morning.

Pool looks lovely this morning this is the end where there is a waterfall it is switched off at present. Kiddies are still swimming even though it is the start of winter for us, but it is still so warm in the late 20C still.

Some older ones here the eldest is around 17 years old and then down to a year old. They will just keep growing if we have rain , so I have to water them through the dry to get the new pups coming.

Hubby made me this parsley stand a couple of weeks ago, if we plant any thing like bulbs or herbs in the ground the wild turkeys dig them up over night, that is not a real cat in amongst the parsley. LOL

so many wonderful projects you are working on, you have a way of dressing up a plain shirt! love all your unusual plants!!

  2. Maggie says:

Wow, Glenda. The pink binding on your quilt make it come alive. My hands had to have a break from handsewing for the past two weeks.
Will the Kimino have enough fabric for a backing for the Indigo quilt? Can you make binding from the tie-dye indigo fabric, or is it too thick?

More great photos. Your pool looks so inviting in your luscious garden. Winter you say with 20c oh how I with our spring was that warm it’s still 10c and cold wind. I want to go back to the Carribean LOL it was wonderful there.

Love your shirts, very pretty! I enjoy seeing the plants and flowers at your home. It is so different than where I live. The fabrics are beautiful, you are very talented in repurposing them.
I don’t know how to convert your degrees to ours so I don’t know how cold it gets at your home in the winter. Is it sweater weather or is it colder than that? It is early spring here but we had snow yesterday morning and it actually accumulated on the grass then melted soon after. I mowed the yards this morning. I had on the long underwear, heavy wool socks and with my insulated winter barn boots, heavy flannel shirt and hooded sweatshirt.
