Buddha hand lime April 15th 2015

Esther has released another part of Oma’s Blues free quilt and how lovely those tiny centre blocks are.  Thank you Esther for sharing you are very very generous.

Life is always full of surprises, on Friday mine was seeing my first Buddha hand Lime fruit?????? I could not believe what I was seeing, having worked in a laboratory on tissue culture I thought it was a mutation, but no it is citrus fruit.

What is it??????? my mum use to say look at nature to see the weird  and wonderful.  Here we have limes, grapes, a banana, pawpaw and a buddha lime.  Some times called a buddha hand lime as some fingers grow the same length and hang down from the base of the fruit.  This one is grown locally. It is believed to come from Northern India or China.  A very very old citrus fruit,  it actuarially has no juice but the zest of the fruit is used and it has a lovely perfume.

Another surprise to me each year is this flower

Another surprise to me each year is this flower, how unusual is this for a flower and the colour combination??????

Still sewing those QAYG blocks I will be sad to see them finished as I have so enjoyed playing with these lovely fabrics in wool and silk

Wow! What a fab project! You are right, with all those layers it will be very warm. Interesting selection of fabrics, they look great.
Have fun with those grandies and I hope that you enjoy working on another WIP once you are free again.
Fascinating fruit – I’d never heard of the Bhudda hand lime before, let alone seen one. Wish that I could smell it too!

Hi Plum, interesting thing is that even though there are 4 layers of wool fabric and on elf silk it is very very light. I must admit the wool fabric is very very fine like merino wool, soft light but warm. Often when I tell people the fabric is from a kimono and wool they don’t believe me as it is so fine and most people think Kimono’s are silk or cotton. Hugs Glenda

Hi Karen, it has a soft fresh smell, but not citrus more like the smell of early spring. Like your garden must smell now with all the bulbs bursting out. Hugs Glenda

love your quilt and such an unusual fruit I have never seen anything like it.

What an unusual fruit. There is nothing like that in the stores I shop at. The QAYG is very pretty, a finish always feels so good! I’m downloading Oma’s Blues. I don’t know if I’ll ever try her, but maybe someday. Have fun with the grandchildren.

Hi Gretchen, I have still not made my buns but I have the recipe stuck on my fridge ready to go LOL. There are some new photo’s up on Pat’s centre of Oma’s Blue centre very very pretty. Finally the high temps have moved on and it is rather nice not to be sweltering day and night. Temps down in to the 20’sC now just nice. I will be complaining of the cold soon around 18C LOL. Thats cold for us!!!! Hugs Glenda
