Esther’s 2013 Easter quilt. 1st April 2015

I’m sharing a tiny Easter quilt Esther designed in 2013.

Happy Easter

Happy Easter every one.

I started this wee quilt in 2013 for my DGS and finally turned it in to a quilt on Friday last. It is about 6inchs square the grey area is the design.  He has pinned it on to his wall the last two years but this year he is able to hang it LOL  I quilted a red square and added the black border, then machine appliquéd the tiny grey centre to the red square I had quilted then machine appliquéd around all the main parts.  Now it is a real wee quilt !!!!!!!  Around the outer edge of the grey we are putting the years he has it hung, he now has 2013 2014 2015!!!!! I wonder how many years the dates will added in the future. ?????

embrod

These lovely old hand embroidered doilies from around 1960’s came in to the shop, I brought home a pile of them to wash and press,  we will sell them on our cake-stall  which we have once a month. These ones haves small  holes in the fabric or the crochet is coming undone,  but i thought that I could still use them in my crazy quilt as patches this way they will live another day.

28th March. Well I have been working on that last row of QAYG blocks, unfortunately I have run out of high loft wadding for the last 3 blocks ; isn’t that Murphy’s Law for you??????  I have completed one of 7 and hopefully will have a few more completed by Wednesday.

Final 7 completed. Now I have to decide on how to arrange them and sew them all together.

I have completed restoring panel 4 now embroidering around each piece of fabric this is the first block I have done herring bone around each patch.  I enjoy embroidering around these tiny pieces of fabric pulling threads at random and sewing.

I have just started resorting panel 5. this panel has a lot of patches that need to be replaced, but I have the fabrics now and time I hope LOL  First block here needs 3 pieces replaced,   I have cut the green pink and white pieces ready to hem then appliqué on.  You can see my first doily I have cut to use, the embroidery is so so good I thought it was machine done at first.

Hemmed around these 3 wee pieces of fabric

I sewed these 3 pieces together first as they all had to be replaced and they were all next to each other, then hemmed around these 3 wee pieces of fabric except where they were on the seam allowance of the block, I unpicked the blocks here and then machine sewed them back tucking the new seam allowances in, this gives a neat look and finish to the added wee patches, now I will go and sit out side and appliqué these 3 patches down. Green patch is from Julie, pink a very very old silk tie from Paris, and the white is from a doily?????

ff

How is that for a colour combination??????  Flowering in my garden at present.

He came in to the verranca

A beautiful tree frog he came in to the veranda  two night s ago. His body  was about  4″ long and he was not scared of me at all, just sat there and let me get up close and personal. LOL

No beach today, hubbies car is on the blink so he is using mine till the parts arrive so I’m going to spend it sewing instead working on my crazy quilt out on the veranda listening to music, hubby fixed an old gramophone and I will play my old LP’s .

I’m off to link up with Esther now she has almost completed quilting her lovely Lilly Rose quilt.

I love the combination of doilies and brights in the crazy patchwork – and so nice to upcycle the vintage pieces!

Yes I do enjoy seeing these lovely old doilies been given a chance to see may be another generation to Hilda. When I was a child my grandmother and mother always had them on their dressing tables under their silver or crystal. I was allowed to iron the small pieces dry???? they were washed then dried straight away and came up like parchment so crisp and NO cease marks any where. I remember my mum did the same with her linen skirts rung dry then ironed dry she said this made the skirts stay crisp longer and not wrinkle so quickly when worn. I do this with all my silks I never let them dry I iron them straight away and they stay wrinkle free much much longer. Glenda

love the little froggy – so cute. You have gotten done with a lot it looks to me – so many projects just like me. I love Esther’s quilt Lily Rose she has done a spectacular job on it and so glad she didn’t have any more trouble with the fabric bleed that would have been horrible if that had happened.

Hi Karen yes the green tree frogs are so so cute. When I was living in PNG I grew trees all around our unit and had small trees on the veranda this helped to keep the sun out and temperature down plus gave is some moisture we went 9 months of no rain up there. After a few years when the trees grew; slowly one after another the tree frogs moved in and after 3 years I had 7 living on the veranda or trees. They would come out after dark and be back in their roosting spot before dawn, they always sat in the same place during the night and went back to the same hole or cover in the morning, I learnt were they all slept. They would let me even stroke them and look at me. Their bodies ranged from 3″ to 7 1/2 ” long I have never seen such big tree frogs. Best part about them they don’t sit and croak all night long. Cheers Glenda

    Glenda,

Thanks for showing me how to find you. Your blog has been fun to browse and I can see that you, like me and many other quilters appear to have several projects going at once. Sorry you ran out of wadding – darn.

    • glenda says:

SO glad you finally found my blog Deana. Yep I have so many WIP’s I won’t tell any one how many any more LOL. My aim though is to finish them as tops and if any of the family and friends want them they can have them commercially made in to quilts.I know I will never have time to hand quilt them all. Most of my quilt tops are my own design (but I have been making Esther’s as I love their old fashion softness.) Cheers Glenda

What a pretty little wallhanging. Your grandson must be very proud of it. The old doilies bring back warm memories of my grandmothers doilies. They just have such character. Is the patchwork quilt called a Crazy Quilt? She will be a special keepsake. The little crocuses are just starting to pop out of the soil here and will soon be open. I look forward to see flowers and green grass again.
