Making a wall hanging quilt in to a cuddly quilt????? 14TH Jan 2015

Finishing off quilt by adding a border

Finishing off this quilt by adding a border  so it can be used as a bed quilt not a wall hanging any more.  I spent hours unpicking the tacking I had done around the edge of the quilt now to add the border.

I think it will work????

Kimono I will have to unpick for the border.

This is the Kimono I will have to unpick for the border.

Most of my sewing this week has been joining the hexagons a slow but enjoy able past time.  I have another 30 to add and the main part of the quilt will be finished. I have decided to add 1/2 circles at the top and bottom but not the sides.

I added over 20 hexagons to the right hand side of My This Goes With That a Sue Daley design. Sue is a Australian designer whom a lot of Dutch quilters follow.

Our wet season has come and that means very very fast growth every where.  Weekly we have to clean up and cart away vegetation that grows before your eyes.  Ev dry where you look it is very lush a green but this means mosquitos and leeches too!!!!!!

We have three new female Butcher birds.  I love the females they are such gentle greeters compared to the males.  They become independent in a few weeks while the males will keep dreaming at their parents for weeks to be feed!!!!!  Below are two of them.

What a beauty Glenda! That really grabbed my eye, love it! So cheerful. Am loving your lush scenery too, it’s been super hot and now suddenly cool down my way and my plants are drooping in confusion!

Hello Esther it sure is hard on the plants this weather that is jumping from one season to the next over night at present. It is also hard on all of us and so so sad to see Ozzies loose their homes to the bush fires. I have just come out of the swimming pool and there is a Huge electrical storm about 30 ks away. I can hear the thunder rolling around the hills. Temperature is about 35C and humidity 90 so hope it cools down after this storm passes over. Far to hot to sew!!!! Cheers Glenda

Leeches yuck!! I would not want those on me. That is the bad thing of the tropics I guess is how fast every thing grows and trying to keep it from your yard too much. the quilt is lovely I’m sure what ever you add to the border will be lovely.

Hi Karen the leeches don’t worry me it is the ticks I’m not keen on. I cut down a seedling on Monday that I missed back in Sept it was over two metres tall?????? Yep they sure grow fast here once the rains come. I have sat on my bed with two fans on the last two hrs watching a DVD and unpicking the kimono I want to try using as the border on the quilt!!!! May be tomorrow I will Know one way or the other . Cheers Glenda

I love garden, but keeping down the unwanted vegetation can be a chore. Your quilts are lovely. It’s nice to have a project, although slow going, is enjoyable.
