WOW 21/8/2013 with Esther http://www.estheraliu.blogspot.com/

My morning started off as usual looking at links on Esther’s WOW on her blog.  I was thinking I have nothing to talk about today???? Then I I had a surprised visit  from an LE member with her lovely centre how lovely that was. Kay rang me a couple of weeks ago to say she was coming up our way and could she call in, we have known each other for many years on Online Quilting groups but we had never meet in person. well time flies by and I had forgotten that she was due?  Kay rang me from our tourist village around 9.50am and came round for an hour before meeting up with friends in the village at 11am.

Kay and her hubby arriving this morning around 10am they had driven up to meet up with friends from Japan they live about 500ks from where I live.

Kay's lovely LE centre she brought up to show me, Kay is using a lovely cream shantung silk background.

To day I also received a lovely lovely parcel from Jenny in NZ it is a couple of yards of beautiful cream silk kimono wedding fabric how very very generous you are Jenny..  I have had a heirloom quilt as a WIP’s for several years waiting to find the right fabric to finish it, I now have it. Thank you so so much Jenny it is just beautiful.

Cream silk Kimono fabric it is woven 14inchs wide this is a close up of the design that is repeated every 12 inches and is about 6inches across in gold and silk threads

Real close up of the delicate chrysanthemum flowers.

Just had to share another photo with you of the blue orchid that is flowering in the garden at present.

Now that is what I call Yellow. LOL.

A couple of tips on washing silk. I learnt these from a friend who was an artist who painted on silk and did screen printing on silks. she washed her silks by hand with hair shampoo and rinsed them with hair conditioner. rolled silk in a towel to towel dry then ironed the fabric dry with a iron. If you do it this way you can remove nearly every wrinkle, if you let it dry first then try and iron out those wrinkles you never will completely remove them. see photo above top 1/2 I let dry natural and the bottom right hand 1/2 is ironed dry. Hope this helps some new quilters to using silks. Remember crepe silks shrink a lot but if you iron it dry it will come back to almost the same size before you washed it.

DGS building a marble track in the sand with his Pappa. He lives below us. We are so blessed having them live here now.

My latest sewing find which was nearly thrown in to the rubbish at the Opp Shop yesterday. It is made of plastic is 2 inchs long the silk tassel was lovely colours once but is very very dirty now and I'm sure it will disintegrate when I wash it????

Inside is this wee cotton reel which has two wee thread holders thimble caps the needle case which can hold a dozen quilting needles.

How delightful is that it has been very much used and it is a small brass thimble.

3 nights ago I unpicked all my tiny wee emerald green leaves these are the large leaves of the two on the wee stems. I was not happy with the ones I had done. I had not used wash away and I felt they were just too flimsy so I have remade them all bar one using the washaway and now I'm happy, I have 6 more of the small leaves to make and then my centre of part 2 is finished. SO it has been a lot of unpicking this week.

Close up of those tiny wee flowers I loved making but not the leaves LOL

Well thats all from me today I think. I’m off to join up with Esther’s WOW or WIP’s

Hi Jenny I’m also hoping to use your fabric in my LE. I have been sent fabric from a couple of other quilters who are making LE and I want to use their fabrics too. This is going to end up a quilt with fabric from other LE quilters from around the world. Hugs Glenda

What a lovely post. Your LE is looking super. I have a large stash of silks that I bought in Thailand. I was living in a remote part of China and was so disappointed to find no silks to purchase so made sure to grab so e when on vacation in Thailand. Still looking for the perfect project!
