WOW or WIP’s 5th Sept 2018 with Esther.

Where I was up to last week

Where I was up to last week

its again been a week where I have had to go out several times, I love just been at home doing my own thing so find it frustrating when I have to get dressed to go out and what you plan is going to take so long takes twice as long!   The long and the short of it is there’s nothing much to share this week quilting wise.

My smallest circles

My smallest circles, when I made this flower block I thought there’s no way I can sew those little circles so d3cided not to use it and put it in the to difficult draw LOL after machine appliqueing 40 little flower blocks I decided to give it ago?  And it was a success so I have sure improved my sewing machine skills doing My Calico Garden!!!

You can see how small they are

You can see how small they are, you can see there are 8 wee circles in the top 1 inch square still can not believe I did them LOL.

I appliqued

I appliqued 22 wee blocks this week and sewed and sewed short seams, so many that I had enough tiny 1 1/2 inch squares to make

Jhg

6 more Healing Hearts and 2 little squares waiting to be made in to hearts?

Today by pure chance I discovered that my quilting pins that are in one of my sandwiched quilt tops are going rusty??? Yes they are meant to be rust proof but our climate even makes quilting pins rust???  So I have to start machine quilting this top now!!!  I wanted to hand sashiko quilt the borders  first but it is not to be?

Kjjh

My Bargello quilt that has the rusty pins in it, these are guaranteed none rust pins???

Yggg

I was hand sashiko quilting the top right hand corner at around 1 pm to have some quiet time and moved a pin to draw a circle and to my horror it was rusty, removed a few more and they were all rusty to, some really rust some just starting, so far have with a lot of care been able to remove them with out ripping the fabric?

Ggbb

BElive it or not I started making these Bargello strips over 30 years ago but did not know the first thing about making a quilt and after sewing tiny strips for a week ended up with a quilt top shaped like a little???  It stayed like that for 25 years till I started to unpick it but it still was way out of shape so then I cut these two odd shapes in to two even shapes add3d some black and now I have something that looks like it might pass as a quilt LOL.

Time for me to go to bed it’s past midnight. Will link with Esther then hit my bed. Thanks for dropping in.  Happy sewing those of you who sew.  Cheers Glenda

    Dear Glenda
Your little berries are super cute. Have never tried to do them by machine, my hat off to you. Love the quilt top. Quilting pins that rust, it is one of the reasons the pinning gets replaced very fast if a quilt has to be left for a while before quilting with basting stitches. LOL, it is because of my control freak streak. Spending time at home works always. You get even more done when the telephone is not working.

Hi Maggie, my week has gone far to fast for me again out several days and that seems to chew up a whole day some how. Machine quilting my bargello quilt top now so those rusty pins can be removed and I can get back to doing the hand sashiko quilting on it. I find the sashiko so relaxing as there’s no pattern the needle just goes where it wants too LOL I thread baste my quilt tops normally but this one I was working on and thought wold be OK well Ive learnt my lesson NO pins in the wet tropics!!!! No telephone and no internet connection is what gets lots of sewing done here Maggie. LOL Hugs from Down Under

I like the way you did your Bargello quilt, very unique! The sashiko quilting looks lovely. I’m like you in wanting to stay home and do my own thing. Happy Stitching!

Morning Gretchen, Ive woken to a perfect day, sunny, still , not hot and not cold, fresh and soothing. to good to stay inside but household chores are calling!!!! Bread is now on plus washing, have been enjoying reading some of the links over on Esther’s blog on WOW, love how I can just pop in and visit some one else any where in the world and see what they are working on. Your embroidery blocks bring back so many lovely memories of my mum and my friends mum doing those same sweet blocks but they became table cloths???? Cheers Glenda

    Your projects are beautiful.

Hearing about rust proof pins rusting is scary. I hope nothing was ruined by the rust.

Hi Yvonne and thanks for dropping in to visit, Ive been in to visit your link and spent some time reading back through your colourful blog, tried to leave a message but it kept say you have said that LOL !!!!! So hope it did go through to you? Have removed nearly all the pins around 100 of them 2 had to be cut out but managed to remove them with out making a hole in the fabric, as its a very dark floral quilt I don’t think any of the rust marks will show????? Im about 1/3 through quilting where the pins were in some ways its making me finish a UFO LOL Hopefully before Christmas so I can use it as a Christmas present. Cheers Glenda
