WOW or WIP’s with Esther 7th March 2018 Queens Garden block 1

I see I have missed several weeks, two I missed as I had a fall and hit my head on the concrete path, now heads are not that hard and a visit to the hospital and 8 days none stop sleeping stole two blogs from me LOL.  I’m fine now and trying to catch up with visiting your blogs,  looking at stunning blocks members are doing with Esther Aliu’s beautiful 2018 designs and trying to squeeze in some machine appliqué to.

When block 1 of Queens Garden First came out I prepped it straight away, but did not appliqué it down so this week it was all about finishing this lovely block!

Jhy

As I had used 3 different fabrics with the leaves I thought I’d have to use different threads for each fabric change but no the same blue green variegated thread worked on them all.  Was a big surprise and a good lesson in test first.   I should have machine appliquéd the stems down first before adding the leaves it would of saved a lot of starting and stopping but i was so excited to get it moving I forgot LOL

Thinking I needed to change the threads for this leave fabric but no I used the darker fabric not these lighter ones and it worked well.

Gfd

Most of the leaves down and the gold thread appliququed to the left of all the stems only.

trying out that light but bright pink to make my blooms more cup like, they looked to flat and bleed in to the dark fabric on the top petal?  I think it will work?

So have added one to each of the blooms.

Right hand bloom completely appliquéd down not 2 more to g and I’m finsihed !Taken in day light, difficult to photograph as it is raining out side during the day so dark and over caste and when the sun comes out lots of glare!!!!!and night light changes the silks

Block finished. Interesting how it looks so different with a ddifferent back ground around the finished block?

My centre and first block of Queens Garden.

Last night my hubby, son, and grandson carried down a new sewing worktable desk to my sewing area what joy to have a real sewing table, for years Ive just sewn on tables and old desks or planks of wood LOL  If you wait long enough it comes LOL

New sewing cabinet!

New sewing cabinet! It has drop down sides and 3 large shelves, wonderful.

No garden photo’s to many leeches and mosquitos to walk around and take them, every thing is so water logged and soggy so not a great deal to show this time of the year which is the monsoon wet season.  we have a cyclone forming up off he coast that may come down around this time next week, if we are lucky it will stay out to sea.

No creepy crawlies either LOL   Esther you will be glad about that.

Thank you all for dropping by and hope to catch up again next week. Off to link with Esther’s WOW or WIP’s now Cheers Glenda

I’m glad to hear that you’re okay after your fall. Your fabric choices are always spot on and the bright colors look so vibrant against the dark background.

Thank you Kyle Yes well and truly up and about. Best part is been back working on my blocks. So enjoying Morning Glory and Queens Garden. We are having huge floods at the moment so staying inside more than normal, good excuse to sew during the day LOL. Cheers Glenda.

Glenda, a fall?! I’m glad you are doing well now. Your applique is looking so lovely. You are doing a beautiful job. Machine applique can be just as beautiful as hand applique and a whole love faster too. Enjoy your new sewing table and take it easy on those sidewalks. I’m glad you didn’t break any bones. Blessings!

Dear Gretchen, it’s amazing what your body does when it thinks it knows best. I slept for 7 days and nights, Hubby took a weeks leave and looked after me and family made sure I had lots of home made soup to drink and on the 8th day I felt quiet normal and did not sleep once during the day and I have been OK since. I would have been sewing ever since but we have been having Huge storms going through ever since and the power seems to be off more than on and we are spending a lot of time cleaning up after each storm if you look at my FB page you will see the Falls below our home in full flood the are incrediable we see them like this every 4 or 5 years. Hugs Glenda

wow – were you in the hospital for 8 days? sounds like a serious bang to the head Glenda, hope you are doing ok now and taking it easy and follow doctors orders. I wondered what you were up to as hadn’t heard anything in awhile but never thought it was for something like that. Do take care of yourself friend!

Hi Karen, I’m fine now and no I was only in hospital over night. Rod took a week off work and looked after me checking on me every 4 hrs that was all he really did as I just slept for 7 days. Then on the 8 th day woke up feeling quiet normal. Was easy to follow Drs orders LOL as I just slept the whole time. But what a waste of no sewing all those days !!! Still trying. To catch up! Hugs
