WOW or WIP’s with Esther Aliu 20th June 2017

First I need to apologise for not answering your  comment left last week, but with my birthday and my DGD home from UNI for the week I had very very little time to my self. I will reply but sorry I haven’t yet.  We had endless family meals and gatherings to see as much as our DGD and now its very quiet and flat LOL

This is what I w

This is what I woke up to when I looked out my window a bleak very damp day and i’m happy I can stay inside all day and sew LOL

This week Esther launched a beautiful new quilt in black to grey called Shelly it is made up of Clam Shells and is very beautiful,    Here is a wall art I made over 17 years ago when living in PNG using clamshells and I had just started to quilt!!!!

This was a challenge and I made it just after I started to do patchwork I had no idea about how you make or joined them but I sure learnt a lot,  Challenge was to use the same shape through out the quilt and no fabric more than once except for the borders!!!!!! Challenge was called Where the rainforest meets the reef!!!!!   I call it ” The Unfinished Symphony”  LOL

Slowly my wee blocks for TSG are growing I ahve 10 completed

Slowly my wee blocks for The Secret Garden mystery BOM by Esther ALiu  are growing I have 15 completed 13 waiting to have the leaves appliquéd and 12 more blocks I need to make and add the leaves,  10 days left before the next stage is released!!!!!!

Back in March this year Esther released a pattern called Scrappy Triangles I made a couple of blocks and put them aside as DH and SG was taking up all my time, recently I pulled them out again and played with them, it is so relaxing making them as You just randomly add fabrics any colour that pleases the eye at the moment.  I ended up making about 12 or more instead of a couple as i was having so much funLOL  Below I have put up photo’s of how I make these blocks.

I’ve chosen to use a full shape of fabric and sew my strips to it.  I’m not good at using a sewing machine so this is easier for me.

I cut out the centre so I could mark my fabric quick and perfectly every time.

second strip in place.

Just keep picking up a scrappy strip and keep sewing it is soooo much fun.  No planing just adding a pice of fabric you like at the moment.

3 triangles placed together

Just keep on adding triangles in to hexagons and then join hexagons up in to a quilt the size you want!!!!!

Oh, Glenda! That frog looks funny, he made me laugh. Thank you.

    • glenda says:

Hi Maggie he sure made me laugh too Not often one sees a frog like this LOL He stayed there for ages on our lounge window one night he was a very big green tree frog. We are going in to the dry down here now so they are going in to hibernation for the next 6 months or so. Hugs Glenda

Wow your quilting is amazing ,you are very clever, love your garden its very pretty xx

    • glenda says:

Hi Shez and thanks for dropping in, Unlike you I don’t have other quilters close to me to meet up so I meet up with quilters online like your self who blog, its a great way to meet others and share and be motivated, I did enjoy your blog last week when you meet up with quilting friends but it was nice to see you all go shopping together also it sure looked like fun. Our garden always looks nice once the rains leave us, after 6 months of rain we are so relieved to see colour back in the garden. Cheers Glenda

  3. Karen says:

love your scrappy triangles and all the plants – and the frog- love frogs! the sound of them are so musical I think! You jump into new quilts so fast and make such progress. Hope you had a happy birthday! you have such a relaxing porch area – I bet you get a lot of use out of it.

    • glenda says:

LOL If you lived here Karen you would be in frog heaven LOL when the first rains come after the long dry some nights I’ve counted several 100 tiny wee green frogs all hanging in the shrubs around the swimming pool they are the most comical wee things to watch hanging from branches often by one hand all trying to make the best mating call. Some times we can not hear the TV because they are all croaking so loud and we wear ear plugs to bed !!!!!! Scrappy triangles are so much fun but I think they will be difficult to get to lay flat with all that bulk of seams in the joining seam????? I haven’t tried yet may be if I make it a deep a little over a 1/4 inch seam I could iron them open? what do you think ???? Cheers Glenda

  4. Happy belated birthday! That string block looks fun. Thanks for sharing your process with Oh Scrap!

  7. Pamela says:

Great photos and post! The triangles look like something I would like to try!

    • glenda says:

Well they would make up great any size Pamela and would be great great pattern for your friend quilters to make and turn in to a small carry bag. Cheers Glenda

  8. Kyle says:

Your garden colors are reflected in your scrappy triangles. Love the dotty fabric for the base.

    • glenda says:

Hi Kyle and thanks for dropping in to my garden and sewing. Those scrappy triangles are so much fun to make, but I have sadly put them away again as I’m so far behind in my 2 BOMs I’m making this year, I need to concentrate on them for at least a month and behave my self LOL Our garden is a treat at the moment as there is colour every where. Cheers Glenda
