1st Feb 2017 Diamond Hill

Were did January go to?????

My first project of my 17 ufosin2017 21 days was up on the 21st of Jan

After 17 days I ahve almost completed Sara's quilt. only the top, sides and bottom to sahiko quilt and the machine quilting in the ditch is completed, Im feeling good about this one.

After 21 days I had finished making the quilt top, sandwiched it and almost completed quilting it. All the machine quilting in the ditch was finished and about 75% of the sashiko quilting done. So Im happy.

and I started my 2nd project The Teddy Bears Picnic and finished it on the 29th Jan

Hanging on the line after washing on a wool cycle yesterday 29th Jan 2017 before it was posted later in the day. It has a wool batting so will be lovely and warm.

Added the borders, sandwiched it, machine quilted in the ditch around all the borders and sashiko quilted around the teddy Bears. Hanging on the line after washing on a wool cycle yesterday 29th Jan 2017 before it was posted later in the day. It has a wool batting so will very light but lovely and warm.

I started making Diamond Hill by Esther Aliu Its a lovely big bold design and it fun working on big pieces of appliqué instead of tiny pieces like I have been.

Finally the block is complete all the iron-on-fusing pieces are ironed on waiting to be appliquéd on, stems are done so now the relaxing part begins.

So that was my week.  I’ll finish off with some photo’s I took around midnight of our local frogs, it poured with rain and the frogs came out to play.

you have been busy once again – yes January flew on by and spring is in the air – although the outlook for February weather is mild I have a feeling March will be cold – so often if we have a nice second half of January and all month February then we have a cold spring. We will see. I am still trying to get back in to my routine now that I am back from visiting my sister.

We have had some lovely dry days here Karen but last night we had a Huge storm about 4inchs of rain and our power went out around 8am this morning and came back on at 1pm so now trying to catch up on house chores and mail. Im guessing some trees came down across power lines. Now we are back to boggy land and mossies are back with it lOL. But it means I ahve more inside time which is more sewing time! Cheers Glenda

Wow! Great progress! That little green frog is so cute!

    • glenda says:

Yes they are very cute but when there are 100’s out side your window they are a bit much LOL I have all ways liked frogs so happy to ahve them around me all year round. BUT I don’t like toads!!!!! LOL Im having fun with my Ufosin2017 can not believe I have actually finished a quilt all ready LOL Cheers Glenda

Wonderful Blog Glenda, your block looks amazing and loved your how to photo’s.
Knew your vases fabrics would look stunning for the center and they certainly do, way to go!!! Hugs Jenny

Thank you Jenny I wrote it up at between midnight and 1am this morning LOL Thank goodness I did as we have had no power since 8am till 1pm today. I did plan to sew up a backing for my next project but it and the bread making had to wait till the power came back on LOL Funny how many times I went to do some thing and it was OH no power LOL. I did get my front veranda cleaned up and lots of stuff thrown out instead though!!!! It now looks like a veranda and not a drop of place LOL Im really looking forward to seeing what you do with your SG quilt I think its going to be a much easier quilt to make than I first thought it is 4 times as big as I was thinking it would be LOL SO much easier to appliqué. Hugs Glenda

    Dear Glenda

I love your teddy quilt! The borders make it pop, so beautifully. As for Diamond Hill, I figured the pieces was much smaller, until I glued all the pattern pieces together. It is a huge pattern, which is especially great for beginner quilters. I have not found my back ground yet. I love the way you used the black and white fabric to make the corners on your blocks and the fact that you have prepared all four blocks. What a clever idea!

  5. Karen Stephens says:

Beautiful work Glenda! thanks so much for sharing it. I’m working with the fusible stitch and wash with glue. I like it so much better than the freezer paper as it seems a little more sturdy for me! I’m going to take your tip and use a teflon or maybe even parchment paper over my design to help with placement before they are secured. thanks much!

    • glenda says:

Hi Karen, one of the n ice things about links one can always fined something new or learn something from them, glad you were able to pick up a tip from mine. I like using washaway freezer paper now with my silks I just hope that it does not spot the fabric in a few years time????? Today I machine appliquéd around the leaves of my Diamond Hill block, I usually appliqué by hand but I have to many quilts waiting to be quilted in the sideline so trying to speed up some of my projects LOL Cheers Glenda

  6. Audrey says:

Beautiful, beautiful applique! Love how vibrant it looks!

    • glenda says:

Thank you Audrey, I think living in such an exotic part of the world filled with extremely strong colours every where has a strong influence on my appliqué pieces now. I keep trying to do some thing soft and in pastels but it just doesn’t work LOL All though I’m making up tiny lace hankies in to QAYG blocks and these are very soft for me
      lOL Cheers Glenda

  7. Eleanor Smith in Spain says:

Hi Glenda, great tutorial? I have not used that method to turn under the stems, great idea, you see l am always learning too.
Power cuts are not the best, have lived through a lot of those, you will have to get yourself an old treadle machine for emergency use lol a few of my American friends carry those around in their camper vans.
Have not started SG yet, l feel the blocks are too big for me, but l so love the idea of a mystery, having seen Hearts Desire and the way that turned out, that its calling my name.
Love your blog, would love to start one but l am not very techy, so well done you.
BTW you do a grand job on Esther’s sites. Thank you.
