30th Nov 2016 Working on my lovely Gollies and colour in my garden this morning.

Oh gosh how did it get to Dec tomorrow???????

This week I have been working on my darling golly dolls, so many happy child hood memories have been woken.  I hope they are giving many of you those same lovely memories.

I decided to choose black as my sashings as there was so much cream calico around my little friends.

I decided to choose black as my sashings as there was so much cream calico around my little friends.  I then thought they look so lonely they need some thing? Im very partial to circles so I sat down one evening and cut and cut out circles, Hubby had just rediscover some rolls of 1/4 inch rainbow bias that I had bought in Japan about 8 years ago in the heating box on the week-end when he was cleaning it out and this was perfect for the ballon strings effect.

Im not going to add Mummer Golly that I made here as it did not balance and I wanted to use every one of these a dorable blocks, I will make a cover for the quilt to go in and use Mumma on the cover. So Im leaving the top centre black black and will fill it with Balloons.

Sunday morning I sewed and sewed and managed to join the first 1/2 of this wee quilt

Sunday morning I sewed and sewed and managed to join the first 1/2 of this wee quilt, since then I have been baby sitting and working but did manage to hand sew down all one side of the bias strips so they are anchored and won’t drop off.

Every quilter who made these sweeies wrote their names on hearts I had sent to them these I have ironed on to the front of the blocks they made. SO it's really a friendship quilt.

Quilt needs to be quiet a bit wider so will make a 4 1/2 inch border this will add another 8inchs enough to be practical. I wanted some thing in yellow and found this fabiric from around 1970!!!!! Haven't a clue were it came from to long ago LOL

Haven’t a clue were it came from to long ago LOL May be it was to be a tablecloth we use to use them every day in the 60 70 and 80’s. But it is full of sunny yellow sunflowers.

I wripped some 5inch strips of the fabric and have placed it around the first 1/2 of the blocks and I like it, happy sun flowers perfect.

You are absolutely insane and I love what those balloons do to this quilt. Well done.

    • glenda says:

Well Im glad you realise Im insane Chris LOL most people done get it LOL. Yes it is interesting what happens some times when you are not happy with a piece you are working on and so excited about and then Bingo you go a little over the top and its fun LOL. I baby sat Monday and today as my DGD is sick and can not go to Kindy, and yesterday I worked so have not sewn any more blocks but hopefully tomorrow????? Hugs Glenda

  2. Karen says:

    Dear Glenda
Your Quilt looks magnificent! Love all those balloons and colourful strings. All those colours just made my day, as for the yellow border fabric, it is a marriage made in heaven.
We have winter our side, the garden is looking beautiful.
Thank you for sharing the beauty that surrounds you.

Dear Maggie I was up again at 5 this morning it is full day light now before 5am and such a LOVELY time to be out in the garden with temps around 25C which is my favourite temp. I don’t mind up to 30C but after that I keep in doors. I did not see my Curlew bird this morning which I was sad about but may be it will come back again. Ive spent the last couple of hours just picking up dead fronds, pulling dead heads off the Broms and general manicuring the garden as I call it, I don’t like seeing dead plants in the garden and they grow and die so quickly in the tropics its an endless chore but its worth it to see it look lush and green we are back to watering as the wet has not arrived and I do it to keep the ferns alive. Im glad you enjoy my garden as I all ways so enjoy visiting your place through your spring and summer it reminds me of our farm as a child in NZ. I also LOVE the winter snow photos as we never see temps below 10C normally here LOL Hugs Glenda

  4. This quilt just makes me smile ! 🙂 Just adorable.

SO much fun when things are dying off here for the winter ( USA ) to see them waking up where you are 🙂

    • glenda says:

Thank you Deb, it sure has kept me smiling the last two weeks also, last night I did a tight zigzag wide stitch around several balloons with wadding behind them so when it comes to quilting around them I hope they pop out like balloons should????? Its a lovely time of the year for us no rain endless days of sun, beautiful blue blue skies, birds bringing in their young to feed off the garden goodies, new birds arriving that have been away for the winter up North flowers popping out and as soon as the wet comes the garden fills with 100s of frogs which Im very fond of. been partly deaf is an advantage at night time when they ALL croak at the same time LOL Hugs your ways Glenda
