I thought I’d share a wonderful gift that was given to me several years ago, it is one of my most prized possessions.  I use it every day but put it away in a box special box when I’m not using it to keep it clean and hopefully one day some one else may cherish it as much as I do?

Needle book is about 3inchs by 5inchs.  Round disc is a pin holder,  and oval holder I keep my thimbles in.    I cherish these.

Finished and on its

Finished and on its way to its new destination.

When I first started quilting I lived in a remote area and a group of us would meet weekly and share what we were doing in patchwork. We were all beginners and learnt as we went along form each other our mistakes and our challengers. This was one of the challengers 8 of us did, we had to make a background out of scraps roughly 36inch sqaure give it a name appliqué some thing to the square and pass it on secretly each week till it came back to you.  Below is mine after 8 other quilters added some thing to it. It was a lot of fun and we all learnt so much.  Remember none of us were quilters just wanting to learn about it and had no teachers or books LOL  We just made it up as we went.

Last week when DGD was here I was looking for some thing and she saw this, I hung it over the end of my cutting table and she just sat there for ages looking at it then we played eye-spy with it. I said would you like it Yes Please Nanna I suggested I finish sewing it for her and she said could we do sew it together next time I come,   so today is that day. We have cut out a backing and some high-loft wadding as she likes cuddly quilts. Next week we will pin and may be start sewing it.

The undergrowth is out of hand as its been a long wet, I cleaned up this area one day during the week.  Its a never ending job after the wet.

The ferns are over taking the area around the herbs!!!!

The ferns are over taking the area around the herbs and where we like to sit in the winter sun!!!!

Same place but after 2 days weeding, now you can see all the herb containers and a young pineapple growing to the left of the last container on the left!!!!!  there is still a metre square to clear so we can use the top area to have our morning and avo coffee up there in the winter sun again.   In a months time the heliconia’s will be up 8inchs and in 6 months all flowering again.

This was taken over 3 weeks ago.  the last 5 months of a long wet the vegetation has taken over!!!!!

To day my DGD 4 helpe

Same place as above photo. To day my DGD 4 helped me finish puling those giant fern and now you can see down the boundary fence at last.  Ive pulled at least 4 trailer loads of rubbish from here.  This causes a draft of air movement through the land we live on and helps keep the mossies away they don’t like wind or draft movement This also helps dry out the under growth and stops the mosses breeding in it.

    Dear Glenda

You have been busy, we have been in the garden every moment we can spare. The best reward is when the flowers all start to flower, or some just pop up out of the soil and just says hello! Love your vase for block number four, that red is striking.

Hi Maggi It was nice to ahve a wee helper in the garden this morning, as I pull out the weds she will take them and throw them on the carry sheet this speeds up what I can do as I don’t have to walk back to the canvas every time I get to much to hold. She wanted a new path cleared so that was fun to do together, we made some progress on her wee quilt to be, made bread and the day past quickly. Hugs Glenda

  2. Pamela says:

What a pretty sewing kit! I can see why you love it so much and try and keep it clean. Loving your SG progress too, and seeing how you build up your block and edit as you go along is very interesting!
Hard work again in your garden, but worth it to achieve such lovely places to be, to see and to relax!

    • glenda says:

Dear Plum, how quickly the months are flying past this year, it all ways brings me up short when I realise it’s Wednesday again!!! At least my Wednesdays keep me motaveted as I push my self to have some thing new to show on my blog each Wednesday LOL other wise I think I’d forget about my sewing at times with family and the garden coming first. But now my evenings are all ways set aside for sewing only! I need to get back to my 2017 challenges DH and SG have been taking all my time the last couple of weeks. Hugs Glenda

  5. Your sashiko mending caught my eye! It’s “wabi sabi.” Now and then I do the same type of mending. And what a sweet colorful piece – your collaborative appliqué. It sounds like you may have a future quilter in your grand daughter or at least a great quilt appreciator!

    • glenda says:

Hi Cynthia and thank you for dropping in, I do find sashiko mending vry very relaxing and saw so much of it in the second ahnd shops in Japan 30 years ago now it costs the earth to buy LOL I’m very very lucky to have a full length sashiko quilted night winter house coat, white with blue thread in the shell design its one of my treasures. CHeers Glenda

  6. Karen says:

so much work to keep your place from being overgrown. I was doing some of the same recently – things grow fast here to but not like in the tropics – that is so much work!! I love that you blog so that I can see all that you come up with and all your beautiful tropical plants!

    • glenda says:

Hi Karen I think I can at last see the end of the tunnel were the over growth is, one of my DS gave me an hour in the garden on mothers day and cleared an area I just could not do as it was to steep, what would have taken me all day he did in an hour LOL Finally the wet has gone all though we are still getting showers, and the garden is start to bloom again, so lovley to see colour again in the garden. Hugs Glenda

  7. Roseanne says:

Love your blocks, well done and your garden is lovely xx

    • glenda says:

Thanks for stopping by Shez, it is very beautifulthat needle set and every day when I use it it gives me so much pleasure. I love working in the garden as much as sewing so they work well together, gardening gives me the exercise and sewing the relaxation LOL All though some times the garden takes over and then it’s pure hard work to get on top of it LOL I like those travel wallets you are making I have some sample off cuts that would be perfect for making them. Cheers Glenda
