This week flew by as usual but some how I only remember the weekend it went so quickly. I have mostly been working on my quilting of my friendship quilt but Hubby put up two of the big tables on the veranda for me, put two of these together and I have a table big enough to put a queen-size quilt so its a wonderful space to work on. I put my Florence Petro quilt on it I made this years ago but ran in to a problem which I did not know how to solve.
My adaptation of Florence Petro quilt Calico Garden around 1930. These were all the tiny flower blocks she made out of scraps here blocks were only 3 1/2 inches mine are 6inches. Florence used beige colours in her 9 patches and beige border, mine is a little bright compared to hers LOL My borders are not attached I ran in to a problem on the bottom border. To see the original design and purchase the pattern you can see it here.

This is the border I made the mistakes on by accident there should be a mauve strip at the top too but by accident I must have folded the strip back and I appliquéd the flowers through it.
I cut the mauve strip off rather than unpick all the appliqué not good solution so I put it away for years LOL here you can see what I mean and in the next photo?????
Here you can just see some of the mauve strip I have cut around the appliqué hoping to solve the problem but it did not LOL what I will do is iron down the whole hem then appliqué that seam to another border problem solved, it will just take time.
Close up of the tiny blocks. I used iron-on-fusing method then button hole stitched around them all. finally added embroidery to them.
I used all silks on this wee block.
Silks and cottons how I loved making these wee blocks.
Update 4pm Wednesday !!!!!! WHAT IF???????
Update 4pm Sat avo. What if I made these wee 4patches in to 16 patches but use a black 4inch square for the bottom were the last 4 patch should be????????? and add wee flowers to those blank calico squares ???????
Update 5pm Sat avo. All joined looking good. Ill try the black between the 16patches now?
Update 5.45pm Sat avo Now we are getting some where! I need to make another calico square and two more 16 patches! then find time to add the wee flowers and appliqué them on? my home work this week LOL. Solving this problem has also solved the problem of the quilt been to short, it was wide enough but too short now it is just right LOL.
I added the wee appliques last night.
Friendship quilt hanging out for some fresh air, Im about 3/4 way with the quilting so very happy.
Garden is pretty bear this week.
This is called Bridal shower.
A bunch of self sewn tree ferns just starting to take hold. How I love these ferns they can grow up to 30feet tall.
Such a stunning wee fellow!
Just saw this wee fellow in the Golden Palm he is eating the leaves of it. He’s not as big as the fellow I saw last week yet?

Dear Glenda
How many times do we Quilt the backing which accidentally gets folder under the Quilt, only to discover this after the fact? Then to unpick for hours afterwards. Your solution to cut away the move and add the nine patch blocks to make the Quilt longer is a fantastic idea. We always have to make the quilts longer in our family as everyone one is so tall!
what a lot of work on that quilt. We all make mistakes and then need to try to figure out how to fix it and it looks like you did a good job on it. Sure must have taken awhile though to do.
Your quilt is beautiful! Love the solution to your problem. Blessings, Gretchen
It just gets cuter, Glenda. What a fabulous quilt 🙂
