WOW or WIP’s 24th May 2017 with Esther Aliu.

This week I have spread my self and have tried to make some head way on my SG blocks.  I even mamaged to complete block 4 to the stage where every thing is now ironed down so it is here to stay.

At last every thing is ironed down, I realy lost my confidence with this block so put it up on Esther’s BOM group to see what members thought feed back was pretty positive so quickly ironed every thing down before I could change my mind LOL Vase and lock are all machine applqiued down now to start on the leaves and finally will do the flowers by hand.

I spent 4 hrs on Monday thread painting my SG bird I’ve FINALLY completed him!!!!   I made him up months ago but I wanted to thread paint him with the sewing machine I never done this before and I just went by  what I could see how Jenny did her bird.  Its not perfect by any means but hes good enough to join the block LOL

My bird is finally spot glued  down to my back ground and hopefully by Wednesday he will be machine appliqued down to the background fabric.

Ive added some background fabric in the centre so it does not look like it is a hole !!!!!! All 4 blocks we have recieved so far from the mystrey BOM by Esther ALiu for 2017 called The Seret Garden.

Ive been doing some hand echo quilting on Laure’s quilt in the evenings this week.

I have completed echo quilting around 3 dresden plates now and 1/2 way around the centre one

I have completed echo quilting around 3 dresden plates now and 1/2 way around the centre one so good progress on this one which I’m happy about.

I have picked up my Diamond Hill by Esther Aliu again now that I have caught up with my SG blocks  I started block 3 yesterday, as I’m doing all these blocks with iron on fussing I’m able to cut out all those petals for the flowers in one piece this sure has speeded up the proccess so much I must admit I admire all those memebrs who made this block doing turned under edges it must have been so fiddly and taken soooo much time.

The start!!!

The start!!!  Those flower heads have iron on fussing behind them and they are cut out in one piece.

Added a little more time to stop after midnight I canr't just a little more!!!!!

Added a little more time to stop after midnight I can’t I’ll just add a little more!!!!!

10pm I’ve just finished cutting out the last of my pieces for DH  May be with luck I will get them all irondown tomorrow.  This is a lovely block to make.  Frustrating part is I can not find the rest of my vase pieces I cut them all out at the same time to make sure I had enough fabric!!!!!!!!

IN the garden yesterday: it’s raining to day so using yesterday photos.

Sitting waiting for a small insect to pass him by I’m all ways amazed how they will sit in the same spot for hrs waiting for their meal to fly or hop past them.  He was in my garden last night at the entrance to our home.

Some how this rather large flying bettle ended up in my hair the other night while I was about to drop off to sleep!!!!!!  Needless to say my reflects made me grab and flick it off me, then my wee dog rescued me by  jumping at it to stop it flying any more till I could dispose of it .

You have lots of wonderful works on the go – there is nothing like variety to keep us quilters happy, is there.Thread painting – mmm, never tried that yet, looks a bit tricky for me. Love your little resident frog!!

    • glenda says:

Thanks for dropping in Jenny, One of the things I love about patchwork and quilting there is all ways some thing to challenge you and new things to learn all so exciting when you want to be creative. We have 100’s of in garden frogs LOL When the rains first come after a long dry we can not hear the TV over their mating calls all calling at once 100’s some times. Cheers Glenda

Thanks Jenny for visiting. I think one of the reasons Patchwork and quilting is so popular is there is always some thing new to learn and so many challengers if you are constantly looking for wome thing new to try. I’m not very good at doing the same thing over and over again except making little stitches LOL. The tread painting for me was so painfully slow as I’m not comfortable with a sewing machine all though I have used one all my life, it hurts my back so much I prefere to hand sew. I’m sure if you were a machine sewer it would be fast if you did it free machine sewing, I did this with the feed dogs up for more control!!!!! We have 100’s of resident frogs and so many diferent kinds, its frog paradise here LOL Cheers Glenda

  2. Pamela says:

    Beautiful photos inside and out.

    • glenda says:

Thank you Pamela, I need to find time to pop up and see what you have been up to this week in Japan, you would have been enjoying Cheery Blossom last month and now Spring flowers on the trees will almost be over, it’s such a beauitful time in and around Fuji San in the spring. Cheers Glenda

  3. Esther Aliu says:

Well you can keep the insects Glenda! But I will stay and swoon over your blocks, how do you fit so much in each week?! I love seeing your fabric stitching – it’s harder than it looks, isn’t it? Mine took ALL day! And that was just for the cat’s face! All your blocks are gorgeous.

    • glenda says:

Dear Estehr thanks for dropping by I know how busy you are, not sure how you find time to sew with all the mail you get, and then designing and drafting all your patterns. I would not have been able to do that thread painting with out the slow slow speed I have on my Janome its old but has this great speed control perfect for learning thread painting, not sure I will do it to often as it does take hrs to just do a small area, but I did want to try it on my SG bird as this quilt means so much to me, so so many childhood memories it is bringing back. Bless you for giving it to us all. Hugs Glenda

  4. Roseanne says:

    Hi Glenda,
Your blocks and fabulous but that cactus – the blooms on it are just amazing. WOW that will be beautiful when it is in bloom. I love, love, LOVE the Diamond Hill block. So pretty and the fabric choices are perfect. ~smile~

    • glenda says:

Hi Roseanne thanks for dropping in to visit again, I will keep every one updated on my cactus, I have a smaller one that is going to bloom beautifully also, we ahd such a long wet season and they jus tloved it, wet and hot for 5 months!!!! Completed cutting out all my pieces for DH last night and hope to iron them all down today, it’s all ready 11am I’ve been on the computer for the last 1 1/2 hrs catching up on my mail???? Not sure how you manage any sewing with your big blog sharing so much and helping others. Happy sewing when you do get to it Roseanne LOL CHeers Glenda

  5. Karen says:

I would have really freaked out over the bug in my hair, I would have had the feeling that something was crawling on me for hours afterwards!!! You do get so much done I don’t know how you do it, people say I get done with a lot but I swear you do double that I do. So many projects going and progress.

    • glenda says:

Well to tell you the truth Karen I would have freaked out with that bettle in my hair 20 years ago but having been living here with all the creepy crawlies for th elast 20 years I’m coping LOL Snakes still make my heart pound though LOL Colour is showing up in the garden again but so are the bush turkeys they ahve dug out nearly all my yellow day irises which is so sad as I used to love seeing their sunny yellow faces. Hugs Glenda

  6. Kyle says:

Your blocks are fabulous especially the thread painting. And of course, the broderie perse makes the blocks extraordinary.

    • glenda says:

Thank you Kyle, not sure if I will make a habbit of the thread painting LOL, it took me 4 hrs to just do that bird which is a lot of hrs sitting at a sewing machine for me as I’m a hand sewer by choice. Jenny did her bird the same way and made a fantastic job and I decided as my bird was raw edge this might solve my problem of all those raw edges and it has worked out great for them there is no way they will lift now LOL Cheers Glenda
